Hollins Virginia Log Farm House
Backcountry Notes ^ | August 20,2010 | Jay Henderson

This log house was photographed near Hollins in Roanoke County, Virginia, about eight decades ago. I have been unable to determine whether it remains standing -- the structure was in serious disrepair when the photographs were taken long ago, indicating that its survival to the present time is questionable.

From a friend who lives in that vicinity:

I think that the chimney still stands - I have seen it from the interstate. It became visible after a fire a couple of years ago. Will try and photograph it next time I’m that way. It would be in the vicinity of Loch Haven Road, within a mile of Hollins, if it is the one.

Your place is beautiful! Congratulations—it must have taken a lot of planning and hard work, but it truly is gorgeous.

Thanks for all the compliments (I love women who appreciate men who build things!), but it is all the grace and kindness of God. Bought land in ‘94 when I didn’t have a penny; sons (one became electrician, other a civil engineer) & I built house when I lost my job and had no money) and I had no choice to build to sell house for income if I couldn’t find work when I finished. By God’s sovereign hand, two months after completing house a NY holding co. came after me with great job.

As John the Baptist said in John 3:27, “A man can receive nothing, unless it has been GIVEN HIM FROM HEAVEN.”
