A Short Trip Down Memory Lane...1.20.2009
Telegraph UK ^ | 1.20.2009 | Gerald Warner

"This will end in tears. The Obama hysteria is not merely embarrassing to witness, it is itself contributory to the scale of the disaster that is coming. What we are experiencing, in the deepening days of a global depression, is the desperate suspension of disbelief by people of intelligence – la trahison des clercs – in a pathetic effort to hypnotise themselves into the delusion that it will be all right on the night. It will not be all right.

We have been here before. In the spring of 1997, to be precise, when a charismatic, young prime minister entered Downing Street, cheered by children bussed in for the occasion waving plastic Union Jacks. A very few of us at that time incurred searing reproaches for denouncing the Great Charlatan (as I have always denominated Tony Blair) and dissenting from the public hysteria. Three times a deluded Britain elected that transparent fraud. Yesterday, when national bankruptcy became a formal reality, we reaped the bitter harvest of the Blair/Brown imposture."

"This will end in tears." No truer words...

A fellow Freeper of undeniably archival memory dropped this link into a response on another thread, and I though it very worthy of revisiting.

As the date of publication is 1.20.2009, concurrent with Obama's inauguration, it gives particular weight to Gerald Warner's prescient warnings.

Once again, the truth, in print, had to come from the foreign press, as the bow-tied bumkissers of our elite MSM were too busy engaging in acts of idol-worship to care about doing their damn jobs. Given the author's track record to date, I have to accept that we may be very close to a pivotal point in our history, and things may not end well for many.

You know, I used to think that the Preppers were a bit edgy;I'm now one of them.

I welcome your comments.

Excellent piece..thanks, and your comments as well..

The problem, as I see it, post November, after the GOP does really well in the Congressional elections...is that we will lack a clear, compelling voice to articulate a vision, a hope, a promise and purpose to the American people. The legislators will be fighting endless, though vitally important skirmishes, and pitched battles with the Dems in Congress, but there will be no one to speak tot he people as a whole. We are lacking a Reagan, someone, anyone, with the same, well.."command presence and grace" for lack of better words..There's no one on the national scene who remotely comes close...Mitt..no, Huck..heck no..Palin...she's right on the issues, but lacks stage presence..Newt's the closest..but he has waaay too much baggage..so who?

Well, the 2012 campaign will begin kicking into action in January, so we’ll have a chance to audition the potential candidates. Hopefully someone rises to the challenge.

I’m always impressed by the UK’s press, they put our sycophantic, PC,Obama-fawning illiterate corps to shame.

They’ve had to live with the Highbrow Fops for centuries and are far more skeptical of politicians than our own MSM breed.

Their day of reckoning is coming as well.

I agree with all the people you posted. Newt IS actually the most qualified...but yes damaged goods.

Remember, though Reagan had made a great speech at the '76 RNC, in '78 he wasn't viewed as the savior, as we see him today. In '78 I'm not sure we had a definite front runner identified.

So here WE ARE, just over 2 years out from the next presidential election (if we have one), and our Reagan hasn't distanced himself yet.

Quite honestly, I don't think Reagan himself could undo what will be done by this a$$hat in the next 2 years.

Nothing short of Gods intervention will save this nation.

Exactly my point..Reagan's speech in 76 positioned him after 78..it was his to win or lose...and he touched the American people..that's what we're lacking now..and I don't know who it is...

And in some ways, it ashoudl be easier this time, with the right candidate...Carter, for all his incompetence, was at heart a decent guy..Naval officer..Obama is evil, and scary...far worse...we're sort of looking for a Messiah...

BTW..don't give up on the Almighty...Florida 2000 proves conclusively tat there is indeed a GOd, that he loves this country...imagining Gore in the WH on 9/11 boggles the imind..

Just the tears caused by Obama's Death Panels alone will qualify.
