Professor booted from Starbucks

NEW YORK, - A New York English professor said she was kicked out of a Starbucks by three police officers because she refused to follow the cafe's ordering rules.

Lynne Rosenthal, who gave her age as early 60s, said she got into an argument with a barista Sunday morning because she refused to specify whether she wanted butter or cheese on her multigrain bagel, the New York Post reported Monday.

"I just wanted a multigrain bagel," Rosenthal said. "I refused to say 'without butter or cheese.' When you go to Burger King, you don't have to list the six things you don't want."

"Linguistically, it's stupid, and I'm a stickler for correct English," she said.

Rosenthal said a manager called police during the incident and three officers who responded to the scene ordered her to leave the store.

"It was very humiliating to be thrown out, and all I did was ask for a bagel," Rosenthal said. "If you don't use their language, they refuse to serve you. They don't understand what a plain multigrain bagel is."

A Starbucks employee at the store during the incident said Rosenthal was being unreasonable.

Too many credible witnesses. They couldn't get away with it because, in the age of cell phone cameras, someone would have posted the video of them sprinkling crack on her corpse.

Being a snob sometimes has consequences. Just order the dang bagel and force yourself to say “without butter or cheese.”

Wouldn't it just be easier to say, I want a plain bagel?

Sounds like she had more issues than just that.

Their minds are so open that their brains are in danger of sliding out? They're small so they need something with a large surface area.

In New York City, of all places, buying a Starbux bagel makes NO sense. I don’t even like their coffee, but their fare beyond that is horrible. Better to go to Panera if you want chain bagels or coffee.

Hmm. My favorite is Ethipoian Harar, home roasted, made in a vacuum pot.

Lake Zurich, Illinois -- About an hour NW of downtown Chicago.

You can go an hour NW of Chicago and still be in IL??

I agree about Panera. I don't go there often, but a lot more often than Starbucks. I'll head up to Wisconsin about 3 hours away, for the day. And stop at a Panera about 1 mile from home, opposite direction of going to Wis. Get a large coffee and apple pastry, for the beginning of the ride. Just for pleasure.

Then I stop at Cracker Barrel, about an hour away, for breakfast (Mmmmm...Cracker Barrel).

Didn't NEED the Panera, just wanted the treat, an indulgence.

Yeah, of course. Its only about 5 miles :^)

Seriously, from downtown, its about 40 miles. Wisconsin from Lake Zurich is still another 45 minutes (except on Friday night or Saturday morning...then you use a calendar for time passage)

The cops are making differing claims from the witnesses and the circumstances were substantially different. We'll have to see how that case resolves itself.

And in all honesty I was going for a bit of humorous angle with my post.

Michael Savage says that they insist he order his "small coffee" as a "tall coffee". "Small IS Tall"

Tall, Grande, Venti

I agree but people like that lady are just twits. They have a chip on their shoulder. Don’t get me wrong. I’ve gotten up and left a restaurant when the service was bad or unreasonable.

3 officers to take care of a non-violent problem at a Starbucks?

Safer than going after a crackhead or other violent offender.

Maybe they could even write a revenue ticket for disturbing the peace.
