James Bond could return to screens as MGM poised to make deal

Wrangling over the fate of the debt-ridden studio had thrown its plans to make new movies, including the next 007 film, into disarray.

The 23rd Bond movie had been due for release in 2012, the 50th anniversary of Ian Fleming's spy character's first outing in Dr No.

On Her Majesty’s Secret Service is still my all time favorite. George Lazenby is given a pretty bad rap...he wasn’t at all bad and the story was fantastic.

It is my favorite Bond film too.

1. On Her Majesty's Secret Service

2. From Russia with Love

3. Casino Royale (2006)

4. The Living Daylights

5. Tomorrow Never Dies or Goldfinger (toss up- maybe Goldfinger slight edge)

Live and Let Die is my second favorite, behind Goldfiner. I suppose there’s a bit of nativism on my part, since so much of the movie was filmed in Louisiana.

The over-the-top portrayals of Clifton James’ Sheriff J. J. Pepper and the Louisiana State Police “Trooper Boys” were not too far off the mark.

They could use some pointers from the Connery movies. Quantum of Solace seemed to be less of a Bond film, and more of “just another action film”.

My opinion then and now is if they don't put the "Bond" back in Bond it will be their last movie. There are a lot of action franchises out there that last 2-3-even 6 movies but nothing like Bond, because only Bond is Bond.

Actually, back in 1972 or thereabouts, there were few Republicans in Louisiana. The old saying was that you could hold the state GOP convention in a phone booth.

“Being a decade younger than Connery, one wonders how well SC would’ve handled them when he was starting to get a bit haggard “

Sit through Never Say Never Again for your answer. The opening scene is painful.

Bond needs something like SPECTRE to go up against in some of the films. Quantum is supposed to be it.

The problem is the delay in movie production. Good movies need to be released on a frequent basis to keep the franchise fresh.

Too bad a more capable studio is not in control of the franchise instead of MGM. Walt Disney would have nothing to do with bond. That leaves Warner Bros., Universal, Paramount, and Columbia. Hopefully Warner Bros. will purchase MGM. Universal is in the midst of being bought by Comcast, so they are out. I do not know the status of Paramount or Columbia.

Oh, I know. 1972 was the first year since 1888 that a Republican won election to Congress from the state (future Gov. Dave Treen).

Well, he shoulda known the girl would be suffering from Stockholm Syndrome...

(actually, he looked in better shape in NSNA than he did 12 years earlier in DAF)

Treen ran against Hale Boggs three times. Almost got him in 1968. Boggs was Cokie Roberts’ father.

Sorry MGM and Broccoli heirs, you jumped the shark with Roger Moore and casting a pouty-mouthed, blonde, metrosexual Bond was not the cure. Wave Bye-Bye.

Clearly intended. If you replace the end credits from Casino with the opening of Quantum, it’s seamless.

On another note. I hope they ditched the 007 homo sex scene they were talking about.

Took us 120 years to get that seat again (1888-2008).

Here’s the key to doing a second Bond movie, Mr. Lazenby, don’t tell the Executive Producer and owner of the franchise to “F**k Off!” You’re welcome.

“SC was too prematurely old and out-of-shape in DAF”

Then I guess you were none too fond of NSNA......
