It you want more notches on your bedpost, maybe you should buy yourself an iPhone.
At least that's what new data from the online dating site OkCupid suggests.
The free dating site, which matches people based on the mounds of user information it collects, said that among 30-year-old smartphone users, iPhone owners have more sexual partners than owners of BlackBerrys and Android phones.
In a chart posted to site's blog Tuesday, OkCupid said the magic number for iPhone-toting men was 10, compared to 8.1 for BlackBerry users and 6 for Android owners.
Women iPhone owners appear to be even more amorous. According to the site, female iPhone owners had 12.3 partners, while BlackBerry users had just 8.8 and Android fans had 6.1.

Your comment: “I would guess it is probably disproportionate promiscuity among younger people who for the most part seem to have iPhones. Blackberries are going to skew slightly older. Androids have just now started moving out of being mostly for geeks. And even young geeks arent known for being successful with women.”
A conclusion from this article: “It you want more notches on your bedpost, maybe you should buy yourself an iPhone.”
To put it in scientific terms: one always has to be careful when making causation conclusions from merely a correlation. [Ex: when I take an umbrella to work, my shoes tend to get wet. Therefore, if I do not want to get my shoes wet, I should never take an umbrella. The error is that we really have a third factor causing the correlationI take the umbrella when the weather is rainy.]
But the improper conclusion is worse here because the sample has a selection bias, as you knew intuitively. Any scientist who studies data knows about self selection sample bias: its probably the biggest concern when devising a test.
I guess I was off as the chart does control for age. The numbers are for at age 30. Although I still think there are numerous reasons to explain this outside of the phone being the root cause.
If numerous partners is what you want though, I guess a little “look the part be the part” never hurt anyone though.
Remember this if you are without a phone and someone offers you their iphone to hold.
When you’ve got a portable phone with map device and are looking for a “last call” hookup among your 350 facebook “friends”, those who live with their phone constantly in their hand, are probably more likely to sleep with SOMEONE that night even if it isn’t the one (s)he really wanted, how’s that 60s song go “love the one you’re with Doot Doot Doot Doot Dooot Dooot Dooot!”
