Her parents were Baptist and Catholic and she was born in Georgia, part of the US Bible Belt. But Hollywood superstar Julia Roberts says she is now a practising Hindu. Speaking to the September issue of Elle magazine, Roberts said she goes to the temple to "chant, pray and celebrate."
The 42-year-old actress, who won a million hearts with Pretty Woman and an Oscar with Erin Brockowich, took to Hinduism during the shooting of her upcoming film, `Eat, Pray and Love' last year. In the movie, she plays a divorced woman who travels to Italy for food, India for spirituality and Bali, where she finds love. In the interview, Robert also spoke of reincarnation. "I've been so spoiled with my friends and family in this life. Next time I want to be just something quiet and supporting," she said.
Swami Dharamdev of Hari Mandir, Pataudi, where `Eat, Pray and Love' was shot for three weeks in September-October last year, said it is good news if someone accepts Hinduism from the heart. During the film's shooting, he said, a makeshift temple had been constructed nearby where unit members would light lamps and burn incense sticks. "Julia too would pray there, run her hands over the lamp and her hair as we all do," he recalled. "She also got her three kids here. I tied the sacred red thread on their wrists and applied the tilak on their foreheads," he said.
Swami Dharamdev recalled the actress also requested him, through her private assistant, to pray for her mother who was ill. "Before she left I told her, `you may choose not to eat or love. But don't forget to pray. Make that a part of your life, not just acting in this film'. She smiled and nodded affirmatively," he said.
In a statement, Rajan Zed, president of the Universal Society of Hinduism in the US, also said he and his fellow practitioners welcome Roberts into the fold.
Julia's move to Hinduism has sparked off a torrent of online response. Some are highly critical of her; others the opposite. "Another confused celebrity trying on the religion "flavour" of the month. Hindu? Does she even know what that means? How can you convert to another religion after making a film? Next thing you know she'll be wearing a Kabbalah bracelet after going to a Madonna concert!," was a comment posted on The Daily Mail's website. However, Anne, Leicester, wrote, "I like Julie Roberts, admire her work on screen and her commitment to her beliefs. If she's living her life to the ideals of Hinduism, that's all to the good. I look forward to seeing her latest film.
Then as Hindus, they may be happy and pleased with their demise. What a wretched thing. Perhaps they believe they have no soul? Soul-less things ‘just die’. We, on the other hand, have souls and when this body dies, they will have a destination. Heaven or hell.
God desires that not one goes to hell. Not one. The rub is that we are created with free will. WE are the key, will we humble ourselves to God, accept His son as our Saviour?
What an amazing gift that is. The wages of sin is death, eternally. We are all guilty of it. But that guilt was paid for when Jesus laid down his life on the cross. My guilt-fee is paid in full. Just by acknowledging and accepting Jesus.
The millions that will go, go having refused Jesus. I pray that is not you.

No wonder she has to keep him close—she knows he a cheat and herself a whore...I guess togetherness might help her control her immorality. Saw her on Letterman for a few seconds flipping through TV station—Gawsh, she’s had some severe plastic surgery! Her sharp chin looked a foot long.
Everybody has one, and only one. It is changeable, but the change is of the order of magnitude of a full-body transplant, if such a thing were possible.
You can try out this philosophy or that, but those are like changing the curtains in your living room, at least in the present example. Changing religion is more like burning the house down and rebuilding a different structure.

I would think that an earthly belief would not have any effect on whether someone has a soul or not. Doesn’t everyone? If not, why would God create Hindus that way?
If God desires that no one goes to hell, why does He create those Hindus that He knows will remain Hindus?

How would someone know it wasn’t their religion, without trying it out?
What religion do agnostics have?

B)Javier Bardem continuity being cast as the Latin lover. (well he’s a perfect match for horse face I guess)
A cross between ‘The Dogs of War’, ‘Rambo 4’ and ‘Predator’. Good, but not as good as I thought it would be. Plenty of action. Considering the genre, I'd give it a B. G/F liked it too, she though it dragged a little. We both liked ‘Rambo 4’ better.
I though Eric Roberts as the baddie was the best character in the film. Mickey Rourke was good too.
Swartekennedy and Bruce Willis appear with Stallone for a total of ~45 seconds. Swartekennedy looked REALLY old. Maybe CA going to hell has got to him.
Javier Bardem - I have no answer to that one. Almost as bad as Chia Pet LaBouf.
All people have the opportunity to come to Christ....we are designed with a void that only He can fill...so he creates us with the desire for himself....

If it were entirely left to God all would be saved....He says so...but he will not force those who ‘resist’ Him. He wants us to come willingly. It is a choice every man will make.

Since Christianity in India was reputed to have been founded by one of Christ’s apostles (Thomas) it penetrated well over 1900 years ago.
And why were they deprived of the chance for salvation for 3,000 years before the advent of Christ?
What if you’re without one, and looking?
As I said, what about those that do not come to Him? He knows they will die in that state, before He even creates them, doesn’t He?
God knows what’s in our hearts, doesn’t He...and if He knows what is in someone’s heart when they die, why would He create them, knowing they aren’t going to come to Him?
I don’t know that they were, or that they even need any salvation, but that’s a good question.

The Bible teaches that God is going to judge the world fairly and righteously. ....”Because he hath appointed a day, in which he will judge the world in righteousness” (Acts 17:31).
This means that when all the facts are in, God’s name will be vindicated and no one will be able to accuse Him of being unfair.
You seem to be saying God is not fair for creating people who he knows will never come to him...but you are forgetting God uses anyone, saved or not, to benefit those who have come to Him...and His pruposes... That’s why.
