Not to be retired, but memorable

Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn

It was his gravely voice that sold it to me... A truly great theatrical voice.

It’s OK. It’s not a movie quote. The real movie quote:

“Napalm, son. Nothing else in the world smells like that. The smell, you know that gasoline smell, the whole hill. Smelled like … victory”

Man, I’m keeping that - all this time I thought the shorter version was the movie version. I’m impressed you can quote the movie. Must admit, I’ll most likely remember the shorter version first - the memory, don’t you know.

I’m kinda sick of

“I’m shocked, SHOCKED that (fill in the blank) is going on here.”

“Uga, Guga, Agugula, is what he said” will never go out of style. Particularly because, I’ve achieved total consciousness, and I have that going for me.

From "We Were Soldiers":

Sergeant Major Basil Plumley: You can't take any pictures from down there, sonny.
[Galloway gets up and is handed a rifle]
Joseph Galloway: I'm a non-combatant.
Sergeant Major Basil Plumley: Ain't no such thing today.

On the radio]
Colonel Tim Brown: Colonel, what's the situation down there?
[Colonel Moore spins around and shoots a Vietnamese soldier that was just about to bayonet him]
Lt. Colonel Hal Moore: It's getting pretty sporty down here, sir!

I bet that is nice.

Don’t be so impressed. I looked up a different quote correction (Apollo 13) to make sure my correction was correct and had remembered seeing this on the same page. :^)

That’s part of your problem: you haven’t seen enough movies. All of life’s riddles are answered in the movies. -Steve Martin (Davis) in Grand Canyon (1991) I’m your huckleberry. - Val Kilmer (Doc Holliday) in Tombstone (1993)  The crowd laughs with you always….but it will cry with you for only a day. [from a title card in The Crowd (1928)] There are a bunch more I could list that are good, but can't list them all.

“I reckon so . . .”

That’s in the same class as the rest of the great Eastwood catchlines.

A good one from High Plains Drifter:

“then you live with it. . .”

Never! Python quotes are forever.

“Don’t Mention the War.”

Technically, that's a Faulty Towers line delivered by a Python. I suppose we'll let it slip this once...

Frowning takes 68 muscles.
Smiling takes 6.
Pulling this trigger takes 2.
I'm lazy.

As I expected, this has turned into a “favorite movie quotes” thread.

Anyway I agree with you. “Let’s do this” and its equally brain dead sibling “This ends now/tonight!!!” both need to go.

How about non movie phrases?

I hate when people say “At the end of the day ...” that is just filler and means, I’m really dumb and hope you don’t notice ...

"When things get bad and it looks like you're not going to make it, then you gotta get mean, and I mean plumb mad-dog mean, because if you lose your head and give up, then you neither live nor win, that's just the way it is"

Josie Wales, best line of the movie ...

You can here it HERE
