I finally found all the papers concerning the Dunham Soetoro divorce. She had two live-ins and a 4-bedroom house. Doesn't sound like some one living on food stamps to me.
Maybe one of the live-ins was Lia.

http://www.scribd.com/doc/9940006/Soetoro-Divorce-1980-9-Pages-Merged

INFORMATION ON CARE OF CHILDREN:

Living Arrangements: (include type of home, rent/own, number of rooms, number of occupants)

oldest child in university
mother resides with youngest child in 4-bedroom house provided by mother's employer (USAID); household includes 2 full-time live-in domestics

mother's work hours coincide with youngest child's school hours so child care not a problem

Finances:

mother spends appr. $300 a mo. on domestic help, including after hours babysitting if necessary

Thanks so much! There are interesting tidbits in those papers:

They separated in August 1974, when Maya was 4. She was born August 15, 1970, according to the divorce papers. Why did everything happen for Stanley Ann in August? Two kids born in August and she leaves both husbands in August.

She paid two domestic servants (a cook and a housekeeper?) a TOTAL of $300 a month. Generous.

Page 3: Does it look to you as if part of the line about somebody wanting to remarry got blanked out? That line reads, “husband has not contributed to support of wife and children since 1974/husband living with another woman, wishes to remarry.” It appears to continue on the next line for a word or two, but those words look blanked out, with remnants apparent only at the very top of the next line. So it’s not clear who wanted to remarry. Stanley or Lolo? Living in Indonesia and being Muslim, I’m sure that Lolo had no need to divorce SAD in Hawaii (American courts) in order to remarry in Indonesia. In fact, couldn’t he just declare himself divorced from SAD and proceed however he wanted? Isn’t that how Muslims divorce? “I divorce you.” Done! Could SAD have been planning to remarry? Lolo did remarry and had more children, one of whom had a son who apparently attended Maya’s wedding.

Why didn’t Lolo support his family for 8 years between the separation and divorce? Lia, the stepsister, said that she remained in the household of LOLO for over 15 years, so she’s not one of Stanley’s servants. Lia said that Lolo bought that house for Stanley and Maya and Barry to live in, iirc. It was in an upscale neighborhood. I believe Lia said that Stanley Ann Soetoro ALWAYS lived in good neighborhoods in Indonesia, not the slums that Obama tries to make everyone believe. She also said that Barry was driven to school every day in a car, quite a luxury for that time in Indonesia. A chauffeur. Perhaps that was SAD’s other servant—a housekeeper and a chauffeur. Nice for them.

USAID was her employer. There’s a photo and story about that:
http://www.usaid.gov/press/frontlines/fl_mar09/p1_obama.html

Now this would be AFTER she separated from Lolo, according to the date on the photo. From that story, “In his biographical Dreams From My Father published in 1995 and updated in 2004, Obama wrote [sic] that ‘five days a week she [SAD] came into my room at four in the morning, force-fed me breakfast, and proceeded to teach me English lessons for three hours before I left for school.’”

FORCE-FED? What an odd choice of words. Lia suggested this scenario. Those times when he was locked in a room and Lia had to sneak him food through a window. Food that he wasn’t allowed to eat, otherwise. Perhaps street food wasn’t halal?

WHY would SAD have to teach Barry ENGLISH for 3 hours a day before he went to school in Indonesia? He supposedly lived in the USA until he was 6 years old. His FIRST LANGUAGE was English. He might have had trouble learning Indonesian, but he’d learn Indonesian at school. No problem. Kids pick up languages very quickly, especially through immersion. He wasn’t in Indonesia long enough to lose his first language. Besides, kids can easily be bi-lingual. They learn a second language but don’t lose the first one. Maya still speaks fluent Indonesian as well as English.

Speaking of Maya—She was born in Indonesia to an Indonesian father. How is it that the divorce papers refer to her as an American citizen?

The divorce papers say, “oldest child in university.” That’s not American-speak, although this is from Hawaii. In university?

Lolo, in 1980, worked at Union Oil of Indonesia. Why would they address divorce papers to his office instead of his home?

Does “pro se” mean Lolo was not represented in this proceedings? His signature looks different from those on the immigration documents released via Strunk’s FOIA request.

The papers give her the right to resume her maiden name, Stanley Ann Dunham, yet I don’t believe that she gave up Sutoro/Soetoro thereafter.

"mother spends appr. $300 a mo. on domestic help, including after hours babysitting if necessary"

do you have a list of all of her finances at the time?

$ 300 for the servants bill? No way!

More likely 30-50 per month, max!
