"Lola "... Loyal, conservative Canine Freeper and dedicated K-9 companion of Recovering Ex-Hippie, passed away August 3."
I am heartbroken that my wonderful doggie, Lola, died Tuesday morning. She was 15 years old and had been adopted from the Doggie Orphanage in Cleveland. She then moved with me to Jacksonville, FL.
Always a Patriotic Pupster, Lola was called upon by the CIA after 9-11 to break up Terrorist Squirrel Cells in our woods .a calling she dedicated herself to with great enthusiasm. She was the mascot for a fund drive to raise money for the New Orleans Humane society during Katrina.
In 2004, she campaigned along with Freeper Chieftains canine, Brenda, for George Bush. Lola also campaigned for Sarah Palins VP run with her sign Pets for Palin.
She was a big fan of Free Republic, especially the Doggie Ping and the Live 24 TV show thread!
Lola was also a therapy dog and helped many people with emotional problems as my co-therapist. She was a participant in group therapy, child therapy and even on occasion, marital therapy. In 2007 she was called to duty at the Lake City, FL VA Hospital to mentor veterans in the Substance Abuse Residential Program, visiting the unit several days a week. The veterans delighted in Lola, and knew whatever they confided in her would be kept totally confidential. She touched so many lives!
Lola was my faithful companion for 15 years. I learned much about love and loyalty, honesty and compassion from this Person in a Fur Coat. In the last year, Lola had problems with arthritis we made adjustments in our lifestyle. Freeper Chieftain often had to come over and help me get her to the vet. Her difficulties increased in the last few months. I learned that love sees the other as perfect no matter their frailties, and they are as beautiful as ever, maybe more , as the years go on.
On the morning of her last day, she lay there sleeping while I sat there petting her, and comforting her .then she just stopped breathing and was gone.
This is when you learn the value of true friends. My friends, Glenda, Kim, and Jane came to console me. Then our good friend, master finishing carpenter and true conservative, Terry, built a light maple coffin for Lola. Terry and Freeper Chieftain helped me bury her Tuesday night .and now it is very quiet and I miss Lola so much.
Please say a prayer for her and for me, or chant. Thanks for listening to my grief.
Bless you. Been there...it hurts!
Oh no....I am SO VERY sorry....what a wonderful life you gave your doggy and she in return...
Aww, thanks for pinging Recovering Ex-hippie. I’m so sorry for your loss, I’ve been through it and know the pain.
It sounds like you gave Lola a wonderful and interesting life, that along with your love were all you can do - and she knew it.
I am so sorry. I know you loved her and took special care of her. How lucky you were to find each other.
You must be a very special person to have been the one that Lola chose to spend all her years with on earth. That is not a loss, but a gift. What a beautiful girl, how fortunate you both were. Hugs....
I've had dogs my whole life, it never gets easier letting them go, in fact the older I get the harder it gets. I still mourn the loss of my "Jerry" 4 years ago now even though we have a wonderful Labradoodle that we rescued named "Teddy" about 6 months after Jerry died.
Terribly sorry for your loss, their love for us is unconditional and it's obvious your dog loved you. Grieve, take your time and mourn your loss. When you're ready, there's another one waiting for you to rescue them from whatever situation they're in, so they can love you just as much.
I'm sure Lola loved you too! I would bet, if Lola could speak she'd praise YOU and seek YOU as her owner. It's hard but try to view it this way, you had 15 years together. That is a long time for a wonderful dog. Both of you were blessed. You are in our prayers. Be kind to yourself.
I am sorry for your loss. Nothing compares to the friendship of a good dog. But, there are other good dogs out there looking for a good home, so when you are ready...
Please accept my condolences on your loss. Dogs spend too short a time in our lives.
Sorry to hear about losing your friend, I know how that hurts. Hope you can find a new friend to keep you company.
What a wonderful tribute for a wonderful companion.....so sad for your loss
A Little Dog Angel
High up in the courts of heaven today
a little dog angel waits;
with the other angels he will not play,
but he sits alone at the gates.
“For I know my master will come” says he,
“and when he comes he will call for me.”
The other angels pass him by
As they hurry toward the throne,
And he watches them with a wistful eye
as he sits at the gates alone.
“But I know if I just wait patiently
that someday my master will call for me.”
And his master, down on earth below,
as he sits in his easy chair,
forgets sometimes, and whispers low
to the dog who is not there.
And the little dog angel cocks his ears
and dreams that his master’s voice he hears.
And when at last his master waits
outside in the dark and cold,
for the hand of death to open the door,
that leads to those courts of gold,
he will hear a sound through the gathering dark,
a little dog angel’s bark.
It’s very hard to type right now - there seems to be a wet, blur over my eyes that is requiring a great deal of Kleenex. Sending you prayers of comfort and condolences from me and my canine buddy, Rex.
My deepest sympathies on your loss. I just lost my fur-baby on July 2 and I am still in shock. Your dog helped many people and I’m sure gave you plenty of love and memories. Hold them dear to you heart. {{hugs}} I feel your pain and loss.
That is such a beautiful poem..it really touched me.
thank you so much for taking the time to care and send it.
I sure to do miss that little “punk”..I used to affectionally call her “The Punk” and “punkie”..she had so many pet names...”Snuppy” and “Sunpinskiya”..ha.
My yellow lab, Icon or Ike is 14....he has nicknames as well Bubba, Bubby, Bub....back in the day when he acted like a Lab he would be also be lovingly referred to as dumbas$$......
Keep us posted when God sends another furry friend into your life.......
Condolences from all of us here. Lola was dearly loved and will be sorely missed . . . but such love will not be allowed to vanish forever.
Best Wishes
