- A Littleton neighborhood is on edge after a coyote attacked and nearly killed a woman's dog Saturday morning. These attacks are becoming more and more common.Buster is a Chihuahua-Terrier mix. He was attacked Saturday morning. "He woke me up at 6:30 to do his thing. I let him out and I came out with him," said Jodi Robinette of Littleton. "And about a minute later, he screamed like I've never heard an animal scream." Robinette ran after Buster and the coyote behind her home at 949 West Peakview Circle near Angeline Little Greenway Park."And right when I came around this corner, the coyote had my dog in his mouth, shaking him as he was running, she said. "And then, I see the coyote at the very middle of this field drop my dog." Turns out the neighbors pit bulls were going after the coyote. As for the pit bulls - they scared off the coyote and then protected Buster under a bush. "They were circling him and sitting by him. Making sure he was all right," said Robinette. "So it needs to be said that theres some good (in pit bulls) and not all bad."

“Theres not a night goes by that coyotes dont enter my yard hoping to get one of the feral cats I keep to control snakes. Its interesting to see how little fear they have of humans these days. They do fear the sound of a firearm discgarging, though.”<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<
When I lived in southern California, we would often have coyotes come right up. Some would even act injured to get food. They are very clever, and they certainly don’t view us humans as higher up (but they do run if you bend down to pick something up off the ground)!
I know Pits can be very dangerous if not raised right. Being an owner of one she is the best dog ever. Loves everyone Pits are extreme protectors at the homefront. I live in an area where coyotes roam plenty, its a comfort having her.
I hear you. Any dog can be dangerous if raised incorrectly.
Thanks for the articles showing the good side of Pitbulls today with this one and the one that saved the owners from the house fire. A few folks on FR would rather just focus and post the negative about Pit Bulls and not look at the breed as a whole.
Put Karelian Bear dogs, Irish wolfhounds, and pitbulls together in a group and their perceived problems will be each other.
The only damage I ever took from a dog was from a Toy Manchester that chewed up my hand pretty good.
*Ping*
The only dog that ever tried to bite me was a long-haired chihuahua. What a nasty creature, who sadly was encouraged to be aggressive through bad training by a clueless owner.
As of the last century they were one of the most popular family dogs, too. Many of the dogs I remember seeing in old pics and thinking of as “mutts” were often Pits.

Currently, my dog is growling and barking, because she is protecting us from the sound of construction on the main road.

What a neat story! Thanks for the ping.
If you’re interested, here’s a link to some pictures of early American pitbulls and their owners.

At one time, they were the quintessential American dog.
Are you the owner of that site? I noticed it happened to belong to a breeder, just curious.
