The Iver Johnson ad was touting the safety of their revolvers. The one in the ad was a hammerless model which could not be fired by a child, due to the weight of the trigger pull. They also pioneered the transfer bar on their hammer revolvers, so the gun would not fire when dropped or the hammer was struck, without the trigger being pulled. “Hammer the Hammer” was the ad copy.

The transfer bar is a common item in revolvers now, S&W added it in the mid 40’s and Ruger to it’s single action guns in the 70’s.
