Google's Android OS is still showing excellent growth in smartphone market share, actually topping Apple's iPhone in new purchases for the first half of 2010, according to market researcher, Nielsen.

In the first six months of 2010, Google gained 27% of new phone purchases, bettering the iPhone's 23%, but still trailing Blackberry's 33% market share. The Apple iPhone is still the most desired smartphone for future purchases, ahead of both Google and Blackberry.

My iPhone spies on me enough as it is.
I’d hate to have a Google phone reporting my every move to the government.

Anyone that uses anything associated with Google including gmail, phones, etc. is a complete idiot and deserves to have their privacy violated in a major way. Google is rotten to the core.

Mathematically yes! But when you consider that Apple makes just one phone for one carrier, I’d expect that the rest of the market would do what it is doing given that they can’t yet get an iPhone.

Can’t count the number of folks who say “I’d get an iPhone if it wasn’t stuck with ATT”.

Google has 6 more months until THAT ends.

Then we will be talking about iPhone 5 and these numbers will be a brief footnote.

Apple ‘data mines’ as much as Google on their devices, including computers. It’s not just Google. So do the networks. You send email (phone & computer) or text messages? Guess what.... they’re watching you.

This FreeRepublic web site you’re logged into with your personal email has a nice little Google script at the bottom of every page. Ever check the page source or inspect element?

You’re using a site closely associated with Google.
Now who’s the idiot?

I hate Apple too. Nothing from Apple or Google are used by me and nothing that has their name in it is used on my computers. If it has to use Quick time to view it, I pass.

I hate Apple about as much as I hate Google.
I curse Steve Jobs and his fascist iron grip on the iPhone and the AppStore everyday. But I still have an iPhone for now. I will move to a Windows based smartphone when MicroSoft finally has a comparable product with the same functionality and 3rd party software selection.

Um don’t you know how to block the Google script on FR? It’s not hard. Mine says google-analytics google scripts forbidden on any page I go to on FR.

And you know this exactly how? How does Apple gather this data from its locked down computers with all ports closed? Do you know this for a fact, or are you just talking out of your hat?

On the other hand, I have to agree with you that what you send on the net, once it leaves your computer, is no longer yours. You can have no expectation of privacy... On the net, you are an open book.

Exactly what has Steve Jobs' "iron grip" prevented you from doing on your iPhone and what Apps has he kept out of the App Store's selection of over 250,000 that you just absolutely have to have that were kept out because of his whim, and not because of contractual obligations to meet AT&T's requirements?

Good luck on your wait for your equivalent Microsoft phone and equivalent software selection.

Apparently, while you are waiting, Steve Jobs' management style has brought you a smartphone and its ecosystem that is better than anyone else's, that you appreciate enough to buy and use safely, while you wait for your knight in shining armor from Redmond to come and rescue you from the chains Apple has bound you with.

Jobs must be doing something right...

Whether it’s Android or iPhone, rest assured Blackberry’s market share is headed down due to both.

Well documented ad nauseam.
Your head in the sand about this will change nothing in your mind.

Maybe venture away from fanboy sites for 5 seconds and you might learn something.

One of the many reasons I got rid of my Mac was because it phoned home constantly. Data packets. Apple mined my default email address in one. Much of the info was code and probably usage statistics (I never looked into that stuff). Why would they be sending my email address back to their servers?

Clue: there are no locked down ports when the OS is sending out info without your permission or, in your case, knowledge.

But I like your instant denial and defense. You are a true-blue ‘fanboy’. You sound exactly like a democrat when Dear Leader is insulted with the truth.
At the very least, you guys sure are entertaining.

Um, yea, I’m well beyond that. If you’re using an “extension” or “add-on” you might be blocking some of it. Firefox is pretty much direct line to google and you can’t really stop it with many of the extensions.... even though you think they are.

A couple hundred thousand up to date entries in my HOSTS file does the best job.

Quicktime doesn’t belong on any computer.

Suggest this as a substitute:
