McCain's jet, with him in it, was hit by a rocket fired from another jet on the deck due to an electrical surge. McCain barely escaped.
We all have issues with McCain, but he went through a Hell neither you or I would never want to experience.

Well, not according to the official investigation. THEY DON'T KNOW EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENED but focused on a power surge in the changing from external to onboard (the aircraft) power. There seems to be an equipment failure history and procedures that weren't exactly followed. I don't think that there was a accusation that McCain was at fault (except by McCain haters of course). A MISSILE FROM HIS F4 DID FIRE PREMATURELY AND HIT ANOTHER AIRCRAFT. There was a major investigation that resulted in many changes in the staging procedures, fire fighting equipment and damage control procedures on board carriers. The lesson learned from that accident is still taught today in boot camp and various Damage control schools.
