Then why was an uninvited Russian army wandering around in Switzerland in 1799? I guess if you don't actually fight the Russians it doesn't count as a war.

Actually, the Swiss were overrun by the French during the Napoleonic Wars in 1798. Wound up getting fought back and forrth over by the French, Austrians and Russians (!). The Russkies may have been lost.

Didn’t get their full freedom back till 1814. And then it was essentially given to them by the European powers who had just defeated Napoleon, they didn’t win it for themselves by fighting.
