I’m a female who has NO-absolutely NO- pity for abusive people. If any man did to me what Mel is accused of doing to his girlfriend, he would be in the morgue! That said-I think Gibson is his own worst enemy and is self-destructing. When you start out with some kind of religion and conscience, then go against it by abandoning your wife and family, I think the self-hatred takes over.

You actually are on the gold digger's side??? Who entrapped the drunken Mel over the phone with leading questions? Who pushed all his buttons to get outrageous statements out of him and had the tape rolling all the time?
And Mel did not so much abandon his wife as wanted to make beautiful music with a woman who could bring him more children. His wife Robin gave him seven children and that's great but as a virile alpha male he wanted more. Women like to tame men to exclusivity but some men have an imperative to make more babies after wife number one can no longer do so. I have a feeling Robin understands this. Does not like it but she gets what the deal is with Mel

How do you surmise that I’m on the girlfriend’s side?
I think she’s the weapon he chose for his self-destruction. He was thinking with his genitalia, not his brain. He was also supremely stupid! In this day and age of instant communication , recording devices and the internet. a man in show business should be aware that nothing is private.
Tiger Woods?
I think she’s a man-jumper, a gold digger and a blackmailer who, I’m sure, participated in some epic screaming matches she did NOT record.
But- button pusher or not- he went off like the Death Star above Yavin. And I also know that he is not unique in that.
I said IF any man did to me what Gibson is ACCUSED of doing, he would be room temperature. I didn’t say I believe he punched her in the mouth- there is no visual evidence of that. Capable of physical abuse- probably- but if a man is that enraged I would think she would need medical attention and the news would have broken at a hospital-not in a phone call. Remember Tiger Woods?
We agree that Robyn probably understands Mel- how could she not? If she can forgive him, she is better than I, however.
Whatever the ‘reason’, he DID abandon his wife and children, broke his vows and turned his back on the love and stability that supported him throughout his career.
I think he’s paying for that- and that he is self-destructive because of it.
We can both separate the man from the ‘star’ - can we agree on that?

Spoken like a true “virile” “alpha male” who just can’t be “tamed to exclusivity” by any female no longer of gestational age. The procreative urge is apparently even stronger than any religious belief or vow before God.

What I can’t understand is whether you think that the second woman was a pure “golddigger,” or just the woman willing to provide her fecund womb to the Uber-male Mel. Since apparently reproduction trumps all social mores in your explanation of Mel’s behavior, why doesn’t he just get a harem of non-demanding women to bear his babies? They can shut up and be grateful that he impregnates them and lets them “suck his c@ck,” as he demanded in his drunken (as you believe) phone call.

Sorry, bud, you sound like so many guys I’ve worked with or met in bars who excuse their sneaky infidelities on the grounds that their wives are trying to domesticate them but their virility just can’t be kept in a little married cage. I’m not saying that’s what YOU do - just that you sound like them. All self-justifying blather to make excuses for the fact that they are too selfish to keep their wedding vows.

It may not always be easy to do when you’re a man, but that’s the pledge I took, and that’s the one I’v kept. Gibson seems to be just lost right now, which happens to so many guys when they cheat and leave. Their second and third marriages have an even higher rate of failure than their first.

It’s too bad; he was talented.
