I had my leg amputated without general anesthesia. Got the medicine that makes you woozy, and a nerve block, but no general due to my weak heart. I confusedly remember sawing noises and being jerked around and great discomfort. I do NOT recommend this.
I agree with you.
The need to know how the surgery is going and what they are doing in major surgery is zero, in my opinion.
I did have an outpatient dental surgery several years later and I was terrified.
I was awake for the whole thing — deliberately — I was given options.
It turned out fine.
I hope you are doing fine now Lucius.
The conversation was good between doctor and nurse and the music being played was classical music.
That sounds very rough...I once had an umbilical hernia operation with just a local (like a dentist would use). No relaxant, no anesthetics...was a bit rough...but not as bad as yours.
I see that a lot in Surgery...usually a spinal does the trick, but General is always better......the noise of a bone saw can be unnerving.......
I began coming to before my dental surgery was completed. The surgeon was sawing four impacted wisdom teeth out of my head and jaw. I remember dreaming about a buzz saw cutting timber, then realized it wasn’t a dream, as I was feeling pain - the buzzing sound was inside my head. I managed a drowsy groan, and the surgeon replied “Don’t worry, I’m almost done!”
