Marine Accused Of Throwing Kitten at Wall
NBC San Diego ^ | Wed, Jul 28, 2010 | ERIC S. PAGE

Posted on 07/28/2010 11:02:35 PM PDT by nickcarraway

A U.S. Marine who allegedly hurled a kitten 15 feet against a wall is due in court Thursday on, authorities said.

Fernando Pacheco, 27, was at a friend's home in midtown San Diego last June when the kitten either bit or scratched him, according to San Diego Humane Society officials. Pacheco allegedly threw the animal across a patio and into a wall, breaking its leg. The then-4-month-old cat also suffered head trauma, and its eyes and nose were bloodied as well.

Cullen the cat has recovered completely, according to the humane society, but the cat's owner incurred more than $5,000 in veterinary bills.

Humane society officials said they recently sent the results of their investigation to the district attorney's office after a long investigation.

Pacheco is scheduled to be in court Thursday afternoon to face animal cruelty charges, according to an official with the district attorney's office.

I love cats and dogs, but this is going way too far.

That this nothing story is reported by an NBC affiliate while so many more important stories are ignored says everything about our society’s values.

- Pacheco allegedly threw the animal across a patio and into a wall

A patio is outside so hitting the wall could have been wholly unintentional.

Gee. I once hurled a cat about 20 feet out my front door. But then the cat had just peed on my head while I was sleeping. I was annoyed the cat landed on it’s feet. But pleased it’s composure was quite ruffled.

What does the fact that this guy was a marine have to do with anything? Nothing, of course, unless you want to perpetuate the stereotype that military service/warfare more often than not results in psychopathic, violent behavior.

Well hopefully this tough-guy Marine gets sent to Iraq or Afghanistan, where his opponents get a chance to return the hurt right back at him. Poor little Jarhead got scratched by a kitty and threw a temper tantrum! Dock his pay for the vet bill and put him in harm’s way. There are plenty of enemies out there for him to vent his anger against....

...but the cat's owner incurred more than $5,000 in veterinary bills.

When will the investigation into the vet clinic be ready for indictment?

Anyone wishing harm to come to a U.S. Marine at the hands of the enemy for any reason is my personal enemy. Got it, Krautbreath?

I don’t dig animal cruelty but if the animal bit him and he threw it against the wall, it seems like a pretty natural reaction.

Still, I would feel for the little guy and take him to the vet, but that’s life.

Doesn’t seem like a crime but instinct on both their parts.

Has that Cat been charged with assault?

If the cat had thumbs he’d be snapping!

Actually, he might have been drunk and meant to throw it on the ground but ended up hurling the little guy into a wall... in which case.... he missed. /s

Come on. I love animals and hate people who abuse them but this is a little far.

His reaction was probably instinctual.

yeah! And now that I think about it, that cat should have announced his intentions.

He is a Hostile Combatant and lucky he didn’t receive the full treatment of a Marine.

OOh-RAHH!!!

A cat - and especially a kitten - does not scratch or bite someone unprovoked. If this is true - this sorry excuse for a human should be penalized to the full extent of the law. I hope he serves 1000 hours scooping litter boxes as a community service when he gets out of jail. He does no credit to his training. It was a despicable, idiotic act that speaks to his lack of character and humanity.

No creature bites or scratches without provocation. The question is the level and nature of the provocation necessary to induce the behaviour.

A marine is so threatened by a kitten that he has to resort to that sort of force to protect his own life? I think not.
