While camping in a tent in Yellowstone, I felt a very large animal walk by the tent, felt the ground shake a bit. There were buffalo in camp that day. We always figured it was a buffalo and not a bear. That is some wild place!
Just take a S&W model 29 with you when camping.When the bear bites on the end of the barrel,pull the trigger.
We got caught in a buffalo stampede.

Wow! And they move pretty fast, too. Amazing that one can almost walk up to one.
Dog, gun and good sense (especially about food) when camping in bear country. I’m manic about making sure all the food is put up in a bear proof container and AWAY from our campsite. I have no desire to be “dinner”. That said, it is true that this kind of attack is rare.

I understand. We left the McKinley N.P. area when I was a pup. Dad loved to camp and would take some meat home quite often. This was before the BS permit days. He had rifles and shotguns. Never be unprepared.
The bears are wild animals and it is their job to find things to eat. A tent is not a good idea.
A dog will attract the bears.
I’ll be bow hunting near Yellowstone the first week of Sept. and this article is very disconcerting, to say the least.
