Idaho (Reuters) - One man was killed and a man and a woman were injured by bear attacks in the middle of the night on Wednesday at a popular campground on the edge of Yellowstone Park, wildlife officials said.
Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Department spokesman Ron Aasheim said it was believed one bear was involved and at least two tents were left in tatters in the attack, which occurred at the height of the tourist season.
"I thought I would be dinner," said Deb Freele, 58, of London, Ontario, who recalled awakening from a deep sleep in her tent to find a bear chewing on her arm.
"Within hundredths of seconds, I felt the teeth in my arm, heard bones breaking. I screamed and that seemed to aggravate him. He sunk his teeth into me again," she recounted in a telephone interview from her hospital room in Cody, Wyoming.

Can’t wait to hear the “experts” with their standard line of BS. “The bear didn’t mean to kill and eat anyone. Bears don’t do that. This is all just a misunderstanding.” LOL!
I will be in the Gros Ventre in Sept. I ain’t scared...
You shouldn’t be either...
As long as you are prepared.... chance favors a prepared mind....ya’ll will be fine... You will be in my prayers...
While camping in a tent in Yellowstone, I felt a very large animal walk by the tent, felt the ground shake a bit. There were buffalo in camp that day. We always figured it was a buffalo and not a bear. That is some wild place!
Just take a S&W model 29 with you when camping. When the bear bites on the end of the barrel, pull the trigger.
We got caught in a buffalo stampede.
Barely made it in the car.
"Which type of bear is the most dangerous?"
"False!"
Sometimes a Glock 45 may come in handy.
Wow! And they move pretty fast, too. Amazing that one can almost walk up to one.
Dog, gun and good sense (especially about food) when camping in bear country. I’m manic about making sure all the food is put up in a bear proof container and AWAY from our campsite. I have no desire to be “dinner”. That said, it is true that this kind of attack is rare.
Ya can’t roller skate in a buffalo herd
Ya can’t roller skate in a buffalo herd
Ya can’t roller skate in a buffalo herd
But you can be happy if you’ve a mind to
All ya gotta do is put your mind to it
Knuckle down, buckle down, do it, do it, do it

I wouldn’t recommend walking up to them.
A fellow was tossed into a tree the prior day by one
LoL
Never heard that one before.
I understand. We left the McKinley N.P. area when I was a pup. Dad loved to camp and would take some meat home quite often. This was before the BS permit days. He had rifles and shotguns. Never be unprepared.
The bears are wild animals and it is their job to find things to eat. A tent is not a good idea.
A dog will attract the bears.
I’ll be bow hunting near Yellowstone the first week of Sept. and this article is very disconcerting, to say the least.
“A tent is not a good idea.”
An English level of understatement!
What do predators call campers in a tent?
Answer: Snack-in-a-sack.
