PROVO The former BYU student accused of attacking a woman with a stun gun pleaded guilty Tuesday to a lessened degree of aggravated assault.
Stetson Geo Hallam, 20, had been charged with aggravated kidnapping, a first-degree felony, following an April 6 incident that he claimed was an April Fool's joke, according to a police affidavit filed in 4th District Court.
Charges say Hallam, the victim's home teacher in their LDS Church ward, pressured the 19-year-old woman to meet him so he could "give her a gift."
The woman told police Hallam waited outside her Provo apartment for her to return, then asked her to go to a basement laundry room as part of a scavenger hunt.
Once in the room, Hallam attacked her with a Taser-like weapon, pinned her to the ground and tried to handcuff her, the affidavit states. Despite the electric shock, the woman began screaming and fighting back, and at one point bit Hallam's finger, according to court documents. She later told police she thought Hallam was trying to rape her.
After being bitten, Hallam released the woman, apologized, and said it was just an April Fool's joke, the affidavit states. Police found burn marks on the woman's arm from the weapon and a bite mark on Hallam's hand.
Hallam pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and obstruction of justice, second-degree felonies. He is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 9 and faces up to 15 years in prison.

>>”Catholicism must be a flawed belief because Ted Kennedy was a Catholic. Thats what Colo is trying to do.”<<
Now you’ve done it. You made reference to Colo without ‘pinging’ her. No doubt she’ll ping the Moderator again and whine like a baby.
I see where she’s advising her underling cult members to stop responding to my posts. Guess they’re not listening to their guru?
Been there done that. To bad you fail (again) to get the facts straight.
Oh, well.
"making"???
Why construct a shoddy building already erected?
Who needs to "make" anything?
Did the DesNews journalist who wrote this article write to "make" anybody look bad?
Does each time a media outlet report the news, do you automatically jump the conclusion that it's not simply about reporting something corresponding to reality? [Caveat: I said EACH time...I recognize what the MSM often does...in this thread, you can't "go there" 'cause the article itself comes from a Mormon source]
Are you going to write complaint letters to the DesNews?
If a poster simply reported most of the "teacher arrested for having sex with kids" stories that are out there, are they simply passing on what's already existing in the media and highlighting a concern? And even if you wanted to ascribe some deep dark motive to such a poster, if there's a scandalous, reoccuring problem (what church preachers used to call "sin in the camp"), do you just tell the poster to censor the info 'cause you want to hide & protect the rep of public schools?
Are you consistent with your "smother the news" approach? How "free" is your "version" of your republic?
Wow. If this were on the RF it would have been pulled. .-) Seems like some are trying really hard but wait......its an open forum so it wont happen.
Oh, onward and upward. Talk later.
Sometimes it is just better to shake the pebble out of your shoe and walk on by.
Which shows you the special treatment Mormon criminal articles receive. These days they automatically get bumped to the "chat" page. Mormon criminals are becoming so common, fraud-wise, sex abuse wise these past two years...it's no longer "news." Ho hum.
Until this post, show me a post (or two..maybe I missed one) besides my own & Reaganaut & svcw who's even mentioned the victim or similar rape victims? Then read posts #7 & #69 and list the three activities that assault & attempted rape is compared to as comparable.
Did those comments draw any critiques from my critics? (No)
I don't mind being shot at. Whats evident, tho, is the inconsistencies of the shooters. If the same posters who have critiqued me were "even-handed" in their "shots" -- if they had spoken up & responded to posts #7 & #69 with comments similar to what you find in posts #11 & #70 then you would have posters who show solidarity with the victim
Instead, those comments go by without nary a comment from critics. Hence, it reveals theyre more concerned at someone who merely did a few cut & pastes to create a thread than the actions of this would-be rapist.
Classic "shoot-the-messenger."
Agreed.
Frankly, let them do what they will, it doesn’t really matter, God is at the helm.
Most of us here could use some good advice from C.S. Lewis:
“I think we may accept it as a rule that whenever a person’s religious conversation dwells chiefly, or even frequently, on the faults of other people’s religions, he is in a bad condition.” -C.S. Lewis (Collected Letters Vol. 3 p. 209).
Well, we share that respect for Reagan Riply.
But your post assumed much and obfuscated the argument of this thread-
As does your comment that he wouldn’t be on this thread. You are here, in case you missed that fact...
I’m not arguing this thread, I think it’s a waste of time and ill conceived.
I responded to Reagan having lots of Mormons on his staff, and why he wasn’t obsessed against the faith of those he respected.
I’m done anyway, do what you will.
>>”Then read posts #7 & #69 and list the three activities that assault & attempted rape is compared to as comparable.”<<
I do hope everyone goes back and reads my posts #7 and #69. If they do, they will see that I was THE FIRST one to condemn the criminal, even before you I might add.
#69 points out how I believe you start your day. Frantically searching the news for any crime (at any level) that a Mormon commits so that you can post a thread here and show the world the evils of the Mormon faith.
FYI, this great country was founded on freedom of religion. Perhaps you should halt your vicious attacks on that freedom and start respecting what our founding fathers fought and died for?
Just a thought....
Don’t bother to respond. I wouldn’t want you to go back on your word.
It is courteous to ping a person when you mention them, but then again, courtesy is the LAST thing I expect from you.
and I echo SVCW’s statment: So Reagan having mormons on his staff means what exactly? That he accepted their religion, that they are hard workers, they don’t generally smoke or drink, what?
So, what? Reagan bought the propaganda about the LDS being honest and trustworthy (although some of them are but no more or less than any other group). They are crawling all over, doesn’t make the LDS church any more true, or mean that he agreed with them theologically. Reagan was a pragmatist. He filled seats in his cabinet with qualified people regardless (or even is spite of) their religion.
Freedom of religion has nothing to do with it. Freedom of religion also means freedom to speak negatively about other religions.
Get over it.
===================================================
Since you feel that way, I really think you should make this your new tagline. Will you please? It would just make my day. ;-)
Somehow lds and lds defenders seem to think that people who are opposed to mormonISM want to shut down mormonISM rather than just exposing them.
They scream free speech at the same time yelling shut up.
I understand what you were doing. That’s why I responded to your post to correct the assumptions. Reagan valued Mormons for their characteristics - not their Mormonism. He was right.

LOL...a person’s religion, especially someone who is very devout, become a part of a person, a part of their core. The contempt that some hold for the Mormon religion: the taunting, the childish names like “Joey Smith”, threads posted like this one, is, for the devout, a contempt for them and who there are. For anti-Mormons to say “I don’t hate Mormons” is a rationalization at best, a self-delusion that they are somehow trying to “save” Mormons from themselves...maybe you should take the Jewish path...Jews ignore the guys who piggybacked on their religion with all the falsehoods of Christianity and who only pray that someday the lost will find their way back to the True Faith...magritte
