More 20-somethings are moving back home with Mom and Dad -- and happily accepting financial assistance.
So pronounced is the trend -- many parents, on average, are giving their 20-somethings 10 percent of their combined income ...
Look, 20-somethings, it's only partly your fault that the economy is still a mess -- most of you voted for you know who -- but it isn't your fault that you lack the skills to deal with it.
Your generation has been coddled like no other generation before it -- never has any generation been given so much for doing so little -- and that is your parents' fault.
It's payback time.
Your father will complain to your mother -- eventually they'll get into loud arguments over the matter -- but if you hold steady, you'll likely keep living at home for free.
States that overpromised and overspent during the good times expect the federal government to bail them out during the bad times.
Our federal government is spending nearly twice as much as it takes in and expects future taxpayers to bail it out.
Heck, nobody is terribly interested in carrying his own load today -- lots of folks are carrying on like 20-somethings who are mooching off Mom and Dad.
Hey, a great recession like this comes along once in a lifetime. Don't let it pass without free drinks from Dad's liquor cabinet.

Again, not everyone has this option of joining the military. You remember George Bailey?
OK, I am not liking this mocking of family helping each other.
I feel that families should, when they can, help their good kids who get stuck in economic hard times. I am not talking of pot-smoking freeloaders, but hardworking, good people who get laid off.
I believe family should help first, not government. Am I weird????
Hang in there Txngal. You have a strong work ethic most will not be able to compete with. Most of us did not have the smooth sailing gig the attacker FReeper thinks we had. Yes, it was very hard work, but we LOVED it. The reason we were happy? We worked hard which resulted in having respect for the hard work leading to the ultimate outcome. Nobody truly matures unless they overcome obstacles in life. With overcoming those obstacles one achieves wisdom that catapults you into the next one. I am truly grateful I was “forced” into becoming an adult at an early age.
Keep the Texan faith and hard work ethic close to your heart and soul!
Every generation and most people face trials and tribulations many times in their lives and some of them are similar to what has gone before...that ol' history repeating itself thing.
Have mistakes been made by every generation?...you better believe it.
Will mistakes be made in the future?...um, yep.
I'd suggest, rather than dwelling on it, it would be better to just bust a$$ to overcome your personal trial(s).
You've indicated a willingness and experience to do the hard jobs, quite frankly, that will be your only way out, IMO.
Good luck
Indeed I do.
George lost hearing in one ear saving his brother in the frozen pond. Although that closed some avenues to him, he put his nose to the grindstone and made a difference, even though few saw it.
What he did NOT do was whine and moan, "Woe is me, I don't want to run this run down Savings and Loan, I want to be Amelia Earhart's co-pilot, and if I can't do that, I'm going to sit in the corner and suck my thumb."
Yaelle,
See post 34 please. I pretty much emphasized nobody was going there.
I really get frustrated when folks get hysterical without reading our replies.
This is a topic very close to many here, so please don’t jump in and paint us all with the broad “insensitive” brush.
Very well said and AMEN!
Thanks!
You’re right, I’m not happy with my situation. I’m moving in a week, and it’s got me on edge. Articles like this just annoy me.
That’s ok, because when I’m retired and my kids are making the big bucks, we’re moving in with them.
‘What he did NOT do was whine and moan, “Woe is me, I don’t want to run this run down Savings and Loan, I want to be Amelia Earhart’s co-pilot, and if I can’t do that, I’m going to sit in the corner and suck my thumb.”
Maybe you were watching a different movie?
‘I’m shakin’ the dust of this crummy little town off my feet and I’m gonna see the world. Italy, Greece, the Parthenon, the Colosseum. Then, I’m comin’ back here to go to college and see what they know. And then I’m gonna build things. I’m gonna build airfields, I’m gonna build skyscrapers a hundred stories high, I’m gonna build bridges a mile long’
‘I couldn’t. I couldn’t face being cooped up for the rest of my life in a shabby little office’
Exactly....I did not have a single friend that moved back in with their parents. When we turned 18 we joyfully left for college and didn’t look back. All of my friends worked in high school and summers during college. So many of this new generation seem so clueless. Many didn’t work during high school...some of that is to blame on the illegals coming in and taking jobs traditionally held by teenagers. How is an American kid gonna get a job at a McDonalds where all the workers are illegals who mostly speak Spanish. But this new generation was just so darned coddled and had parents involved in every aspect of their lives. When I grew up parents didn’t come to athletic practices...now its the norm. Kids just played amongst themselves and worked things out....now everthing is pre-programmed by the parents...its sad really.
Daughter and SIL - son in law........
I hear your plight and have been there many times. I know, you don’t want to hear that from someone of my generation. But what really annoys me these days is that you folks are SO EASILY annoyed. This economy is “way” more than an annoyance. You want annoyance? Pay up when we boomers are no longer carrying everyone else. Guess what? Yeah, you are picking up the tab. So, buck up and do whatever you have to do. Many generations had to do the same. I’m sorry I haven’t the patience for you...whining accomplishes nothing.
BTW, I did...treeplanting when I was young (13), walnut....it sucked. And anytime you think you're man enough to step up on a 2 man swabbing rig, let me know.....everything we move around is real light and the hours are easy....I promise.......
But things didn’t work out the way he had planned.
For whatever reason.
My point is, he sucked it up and made a life with whatever he could scrape together.
You can too. But not with poor me navel gazing. Get off your duff and make something happen.
Ben,
You’ll reap more benefits getting busy with your life than complaining to us how we’re telling you things you don’t want to hear.
We’re sympathetic to a point.
Oops, bad reading comprehension!
My mistake.
Yeah, and I bet you didn’t plant several thousand trees in a day. :)
I know rigging is tough work, but so is planting. Fair enough?
Ben, you sound very bitter. What gives?
‘Youll reap more benefits getting busy with your life than complaining to us how were telling you things you dont want to hear.’
What, like get off my duff and work? I ain’t complaining about that. Just give us young’uns a chance and let us show you what you can do.
