Peter Brian Gabriel (born 13 February 1950) is an English singer, musician and songwriter who rose to fame as the lead vocalist and flautist of the progressive rock group Genesis. After leaving Genesis, Gabriel went on to a successful solo career. Gabriel's song "Sledgehammer." The video won numerous awards at the 1987 MTV Music Video Awards, and set a new standard for art in the music video industry.

That one’s almost as bad as “Shock the Monkey.” Although the Max Headroom effects might have been considered ground-breaking in their day, these same effects and their successors are largely the reason so many of us get headaches watching new movies.

Agree. The song is great. The video is stupid—an exercise in self-conscious avant-garde-ness that annoys.
