Considering how many new cars are rolled out every year, it's no surprise that a few might be just plain homely. There's a chance that certain styles might become fashionable with a dash of retro hip. (Well, maybe not from the 1970s.)

Yep, ugly. It looks like an insect.
The quality and accuracy of this article is right in line with what I have come to expect from the source. My favorite stupid complaint was that the contour of the wheel-well on the PT Cruiser carried "inexplicably" into the front door. The fact that the door seam runs immediately behind the front wheel would seem to make this 'explicable' to me. Apparently being sufficiently well educated to know the meaning of "inexplicable" is not a criteria for employment on Bloomberg's writing staff.
I was also amused by the complaint that the headlights, front grill, and logo of the Chevy SSR were not relocated to the hood.
Amen! I had a ‘64 Corvair with John Fitch’s suspension mods. Was in the Army, took it to Europe and enjoyed cruising the mountains and the autobahns.
Yeah, the souped up old man car, heh.
I had a friend that said the best thing about a yugo was the rear window defroster in the winter time it kept your hands warm while you was pushing the car.
I think Car and Driver Magazine called them “Roach Back” sedans or Ice Shavers.
Either way, they were junk....Remember the V8-6-4 engine design?

I think the smart cars are great. Kind of like a street legal go-kart or golf cart. They are just made for streets and not for highways and freeways. Even in europe, you seldom see them on freeways. I cringe when I see drivers driving them next to semis.
There was a guy in south Sacramento that must have had 12-20 Corvairs sitting out in his property just east of his property, easilly seen from Hwy 99 Fwy. He built a couple of big sheds and stored most inside. Wonder if they’re still there?
I own a 2005 Aztek.
It was $10,000 cheaper than a Subaru
Its more than twice the size of a Subaru. Much more safer in case of a moose collision.
My wife who I bought it for is almost 5’10” tall and has Multiple Cirrhosis and she cannot moved easily, but the Aztek is perfect for her because it is higher off the ground and tall people won’t feel cramped in it.
Yes the AWD does work, I live in Alaska and she has to drive this car in -40F temps, in occasional deep snow, it has performed flawlessly.
I have only a couple more payments left on it and I have never regretted buying it, it was a logical decision buying a vehicle with what it offered at a very affordable price, all in thanks to the many that sneered and laughed at it and drove the pricing down, making it a steal for me.
I think I will further piss off people and replace the body emblems with some for an Escalade.
Watch my new blingmobile the Cadillac Aztekscapade!

Didn't mean to step on the toes of Aztec owners!
May not suit most people I agree but my wife is happy, anything else short of a $40,000 SUV would have been too small and uncomfortable for her, sure its a box, but it does the job better that the more trendy and expensive alternatives.
Its nearby cousin the Buick Rendezvous was indeed over $40k.
Our dealer was practically giving these away, I paid less than $24,000 for mine, a little bit more up here in Alaska of course.
We just will have to decide to disagree. The icing on the cake was the HUGE rings around the headlamps. The only thing that looked good about that car was my pretty girlfriend sitting in it.
And yes, all cars looked pretty rough with the federally mandated 5 mph bumpers. A bad time for people that liked a car with style.
Re: Geritol crowd and cops.
I am not a member of either group, FRiend, and I LOVE my Crown Vic.
Generalizations are generally dead wrong... (BG)
People who deride the Aztec are the same folks who complain about GM’s total conformity. GM steps outside the box for once, and EVERYBODY (it seems) has nothing nice to say.
My prayers up for your wife’s MS.
Thank you very much for those words, she used to drive a Subaru but can barely get in or out of it and its almost a must to have a 4wd in the winter here in Alaska.
I have seen many moose collisions, and there was even a Mythbusters episode about which direction a moose heads when hit by a car, right through the windshield.
I have not seen or heard how such a collision would affect the Aztek but with its high pug nose I think there is a strong chance of the moose or other animal NOT heading into the drivers face. I have my overweight daughter driving the Subaru but she doesn’t drive that much. Even as big as she is she can get in and out, my wife with her MS has that problem with trying to bend, stoop or to just try to get behind the steering wheel.
The Aztek has lots of room, its easier to get in than my Silverado dually.
This is about ugly, not practical or reliable.
I saw a Nissan Leaf on the expressway yesterday. BUTT UGLY.
I am waiting for someone like Chip Foose to seriously look at one of these and the potential. I think their is a large Euro-GTO-ish restro hidden in these things. Imagine if the "B" pillar was removed for a full hardtop effect.
