Considering how many new cars are rolled out every year, it's no surprise that a few might be just plain homely. There's a chance that certain styles might become fashionable with a dash of retro hip. (Well, maybe not from the 1970s.)

You came oh so very close to getting your wish of a new El Camino in the States this year. But GM killed it.
You're right!!
LOL, the Crown Vic, my in-laws had one. I hated it too, until we had to borrow theirs cuz of an accident for a couple of weeks. I fell in love with it!
It handled like the old boats we used to have in 70’s, it was roomy, I felt safe in it.
Granted, it was all “pimped out” for the in laws, I mean every option you could imagine, but it was like riding in a cloud.
My wife thinks I’m nuts. Currently, we have a 300c AWD, a Suburban and a Caddy CTS for our personal vehicles, and every once in awhile I see a Crown Vic for sale and my wife elbows me for lookin at it, lol.
She said she wouldn’t be caught dead in it. Oh well, I like em, different strokes for different folks I guess. :)
Knew a guy who had an R5 Turbo 2, that car was fast as all heck.
The PT Cruiser is excellent.
Occasionally driving the Turbo with automatic after the three-quarter-ton 4WD with eight-foot utility body is like butter.
Car magazines should stick to what they do well, roadsters, racers, dragsters, off-road, over-the-road--but, style?
Beauty is a tool that works well over a long service life.
Everyone's mileage will vary.
My girlfriend in high school loved that Javelin. Her daddy bought the Matador coupe though. When I went to visit her right after he had just bought it, she was digging her elbow into my ribs when he asked me how I liked their new car. She and I had been discussing how ugly that car was just the week before he up and bought one.
That girl, and her sis, could name the year and model of every car that passed on the road. Real enthusiasts.
His final triumph (so to speak!) with Studebaker was the Avanti.
‘61 Rambler, at least.
I had a 60 Plymouth Valiant wagon, all primer. My first car.
My brother had one just like this, but it fell victim to an unlicsened alien.
When Dennis Miller had his TV show, he put up a pic of the Element, and had a one word comment: “Gay!”
I had a ‘62 Dodge Lancer in HS. UGLY! But that 225 slant 6 and the 3 sp on the column let the car really run.
Is that your list of the best, or the worst?

Before I look .... I’m hopin my Gremlin isn’t one of them

It was a tinfoil POS but the engine could not be killed

Built in Hiroshima. Maybe the place is still radioactive.
Some years back, a deranged individual took a generic sedan (might have been a '63 Chevy), pulled the body off, and rotated it 180 degrees and bolted it back onto the chassis. Somehow he rigged up the lights so it was street legal. The cops finally told him to get it off the road as it caused so much panic amongst the other drivers.
So so so so boring. Soul-less bubble cars.
*******
And what happened to the colors? They’re ALL black, white, grey/silver, and red.
