Barami hip grip...

Barami hip grip, Tyler "T" grip, Waller&Son hammer shroud...for dad's antique Colt aluminum small frame agent for birthday present.

That's what I came up with for a 70+ year young kid. Did I do good? Probably also a czech or german or polish greasy spoon for good eats. The neighborhood type with mom and pop and their grandkids working the joint.

It's all original thus far. He bought it new in the sixties and had a custom leather holster made in mexico shortly thereafter. I grew up with it in the car 24-7. I figure it's time to gussy it up a bit. The only alteration he's ever done to it is to paint the front sight with a coating of typwriter "white out" as a base coat, then a coating of red fingernail polish on top of that. Seem like someone once told me it's the same gun jack ruby used to shoot JFK's killer. Maybe that was just a "yarn" told to me as a kid to make me go "wow!"

I don't know anything about those hammer shrouds - do you have to drill and tap anything on a fine old revolver to install them? Please tell me I have nothing to worry about...

Otherwise the hip-grip and tyler T sound like an interesting combination.

drill and tap, yes. Or maybe just krazy glue for a semi permanent attachment.

Keep in mind this gun has been in and out of a leather holster for the last 40-50 years. And it’s aluminum. There’s no edges left and no finish left. It’s lightly pitted inside and out. the original stocks used to be checkered, but are no more.

Tyler T is one of the best accessories ever. Makes a small gun fit big hands and make an N frame size with small grips fill your hand with less bulky wood. Love em.

Sounds like a nice old Colt revolver that has some soul. JMO, but the barami and the tyler sound like a good idea so long as you keep the original grips. But the shroud - you'll be changing the piece forever.

You might look into the alternative of consulting with your gunsmith about getting a replacement hammer for it and having it bobbed, and keep the original hammer as is, in the same box as the original grips. That would get you the same snag-free operation without uh... modifying the gun.

I suggest that you ask yourself "They don't make these any more... do I really want to do this?"
