LAKE WORTH-- You can barely hear it's meow and that's understandable.
A 4-week-old dark brown kitten and his white and silver-haired litter mate are downright tired after struggling to stay alive.
"They found them all bound up and they were near death," says Inga Hanley of Adopt A Cat Foundation.
A couple found the kittens on a boat in a Lake Worth storage yard Sunday.
The kittens were tied together with fishing line, their little front paws so tightly wound, they are now 3 times the size they are supposed to be.
"We still don't know if their front leg will be amputated. Time will tell," said Hanley.
Hanley is giving the kittens anti-biotic and vitamins in hopes that they will recuperate enough to fight off the infection on their paws.
She says kittens used as fish bait is nothing new and it gets worse.
"They use then for gator bait too. There are a lot of things people do with little kittens, that's why they always tell you don't advertise free kittens in the paper beaus a lot of horrible things happen to them," she said.
She's seen a lot of horrible things in 25 years of doing rescues, "It shocks me every time because you think people couldn't do such a thing, but it doesn't surprise me," she said.

So you either wouldn’t have any animal cruelty laws or you would only have them apply if there weren’t a utilitarian reason behind the cruelty? The world’s major religions were more evolved than that thousands of years ago.
Curious why she would charge an extra $50 for “papers”, there’s very little or no extra cost/work involved.
The local shelter where we’ve gotten our cats costs $90, which is pretty reasonable because it includes one vet visit plus spaying/neutering if it hasn’t already been done.
You have 100% accurately articulated my beliefs on this issue. That is regarding anyone living in an area governed by the US constitution. I don’t know how they feel about this stuff in Columbia or Sweden. :)
It must be hard to see an endless stream of helpless baby animals, plus grown abandoned ones, come in the front door, only to die two weeks later when they didnt win the selection lottery.
**********
We went to a county shelter looking for a dog years ago and the workers wanted us to take a particular one in the worst way. They’d become attached to her and her time was almost up. But when I reached down to pet her, she cringed. I had a two year old at the time and I wasn’t about to take any chances with a frightened dog who most likely had been abused in the past. We chose another one - a lab/german shepherd mix who was extremely friendly and wasn’t the least bit fearful of people, but was also very gentle and careful with the two year old child. We had that dog for eleven years and she was a wonderful pet.
Our most recent pet, a cat, came from a local private rescue group. Some of those have ridiculous fees and requirements to adopt their animals, but this one was reasonable. The $125 fee included a recent veterinary exam, spaying or neutering, testing for diseases, and vaccinations.
>>So you either wouldnt have any animal cruelty laws or you would only have them apply if there werent a utilitarian reason behind the cruelty? <<
Yep. It’s about personal freedom and human rights.
>>The worlds major religions were more evolved than that thousands of years ago.<<
I’d need evidence that this is true as well as a case for why it is relevant.
I’ve heard stories about some private shelters. They can really get on a high-horse. Coming out to view your home is a bit much, IMO.
But a rope is reusable!
Reduce (crimminal population)
Reuse (the rope)
Recycle (the crimminals as gator food)
