Romania's President Nicolae Ceausescu and his wife, Elena, (right) talk with Soviet Union leader Mikhail Gorbachev and his wife, Raisa, in Bucharest, Romania, in this photo taken in May 1987. The Ceausescus were executed less than three years later.
The wife was something, she spat at the firing squad. I heard.
pump a couple more clips in ‘em and toss ‘em back in a hole.. murderous ruthless thugs.
Nostalgia by whom? Obama, NPR and the New York Times?
They miss the hunger, the shortages, the secret police, the forced childbearing, the isolation, the entire lack of personal freedom.
I think that, instead of bringing back the good old days, those who miss it should just move to Cuba, where the living is paradise.
Ceausescu should serve as a warning to ALL politicians. People will only be pushed so far.
I spent a couple weeks in Romania in 1991 and spoke to people about life before the '89 Revolution. This so-called "nostalgia" comes from people who were born after 1989, who have no clue of:
Ceausescu's attempts to ethnically cleanse the Hungarian enclaves of the western Banat region;
His disastrous "population increase" program to up the numbers of ethnic Romanians, the result of which was the deplorable conditions in orphanages; and
The Securitate, who would grab people away from their homes in the middle of the night simply because someone accused them of being anti-communist.
Ceausescu ranked right up there with Saddam and Hafez Assad when it came to human rights abuses. Those who pine for "the good old days" need a history lesson.
There are long videos up on Youtube of the trial and execution, as well as footage of them being put into coffins and buried. Not sure why anyone would doubt that.
Evil people, the world is a better place with them dead.
Rigor mortis hasn’t even set in completely and the bodies aren’t totally cold and now they are digging them up? You are either ignorant, naive, or stupid to do such a thing. What are they teaching those young skulls full of mush in Romania these days?
They’re still dead, Jim.
How can there be nostalgia and regret for two totally opposite things like communism and Christ's birthday?
I think this qualifies as a fail.
What is with people and their desire to exhume bodies.
One Pope exhumed the body of his predecessor, tried his dead body in court, condemned him, and had his corpse drug through the streets of Rome and thrown in the Tiber.
King Henry II of England was the patron of a church and had his mistress “Rosamund” (Rose of the world) buried in the church. Later those that kept that church objected to a “whore” being buried there, exhumed her body, and had it reburied. Those that were tasked with this onerous duty had a sense of humor about it and marked THIS upon her new gravestone....
Here lies Rosamund,
A Rose of the World
Not a clean rose
She no longer smells Rosy
So hold your nose.
The effin audacity of theses red sons of bitches just voting themselves more and more of the productive class's money is starting to wear real thin.
Perhaps our own President should learn from history what happens when the country is bankrupt with foreign debt and facing shortages of essentials like electric power and dissent is repressed.
the left has nostalgia for these dictators because they are jealous of the power these regimes held and wish they had.
This wouldn’t have happened if the rest of the family had been executed along with the criminals. Not that there’s anything right with that.
Still dead, huh?
