I’m sure you’re going to get some smartass (aka funny) answers; but you pose a serious question. One thing God gifted us humans with is a skill-set that adapts, improvises and overcomes. Some people turn that off and go to the Superdome, with their hands out, when Katrina hits. People who do it right, though, look at plans B, C and D.
Thank God for Ebay and yardsales. I learned a skill years ago when I got a job with a cabinet maker. I’ve made cabinets for people and they’ve paid me for them. I have a snowplow, and can plow people’s driveways, and they pay me (not in summer, however). I can tutor kids or substitute teach in the schools. I can be a handyman for elderly people, or do their shopping for them. Those are just some ideas.
Drive less, fix more and complain to my congressman for a hobby.
Everyone has skills or talents that they can use to make a little extra money. It can be as mundane as cutting grass or as fun as DJ’ing graduation parties. Just think of what it is that you are good at and what is fun for you.
Just raise taxes!!
SERIESLY: probably could sell some things.
Things to check: can you reduce your withholding taxes? Can you reduce your insurance costs by raising deductibles, etc.? Can you cut back your cable or phone services?
Do you watch grocery ads and buy loss leaders as much as possible? Food costs can be drastically reduced by buying sale items, using coupons, and being creative.
You and my parents would have gotten along famously. They were children of the Depression. They could squeeze a dollar bill till George Washington yelled “OUCH!” But I have to say their lessons in frugality served me well when I became disabled and had less money coming in.
Yeah, but necessary body parts generate so much more cash flow.
LOL, what would those be? Arent you body parts owned by the govt anyway? LOL!!!!
I learned at an early age that being able to properly sharpen a pair of sewing scissors will get you no end of sins forgiven among the women of the family.
I sell hay & lambs plus part time welding services.
That sounds like an idea for a beer commercial.
nothing..our daughter is living off our retirement.
male prostitute.
that is an excellent idea. I know in the DC metro area there are lots of people who do this and i think it’s at least $25 per game. not just HS, also rec leagues— basketball, ice hockey, soccer etc.
Right now, I would bet a good used pistol (especially snubbies) would sell for about double the price in Chicago....NY was that way for many years. Used to be a good way to finance a visit to the Big Apple.
Me too, however I have taken an extra step, no more Arugula or Goji Beef at least for a while.
It's not as bad as it sounds; the kids are raised, so I am trying to pay down as much debt as I can before this economy goes completely off the cliff.
BTW, I know lots of young 20 somethings who are sitting on their ass playing X-Box and complaining about having no job, when I have gotten them jobs that they can't keep.
That’s two identical posts in a row. Great minds do think alike......
