And most of the time there’s NOT a rational reason whatsoever. I guess my level of confidence for government to always do the “right thing” is a bit lower than yours.

I don’t draw conclusions and treat people like dirt (like the other guy seems to do here) until I know a bit more.

I suppose there was no "fire hazard" when the people of Philadelphia filled the sky with fireworks upon learning that the Continental Army had defeated the British at the Battle of Yorktown.

(Which is undoubtedly why matches, campfires, and candles are illegal in so many places?)
