unlawful posession of illegal fireworks

My girl friend need helps. But I don't know how to help her. her brother (35 yo) got a ticket for "unlawful posession of illegal fireworks" on Jul 4. he went to the court , the judge told him to get a lawyer (his income is a little bit too high to get a public defender). it costs $2000 for lawyer. it's rediculous to spend $2000 for having fun with fireworks on Jul 4. the lawyer said, he can pledge on his own at court, but if what ever he says do not make sense, he will go jail for 90 days plus a big fine. it's the first time he got a silly ticket like that . I would appreciate if any one could give me an idea.

It will happen. I've had several requests to call the kitties on members of the class of '98, so it's just a matter of time. Wasn't "Dane" a member of that class? When you look at certain members of the original line up, you've got to wonder how they lasted so long.

Taking responsibility for your actions used to be part of being an American. Defying authority and breaking laws was how the Founders did it and what it took for any of us to be Americans.

Wasn't "Dane" a member of that class? When you look at certain members of the original line up, you've got to wonder how they lasted so long. I think you answered your own question: because he was a member of the class of '98. What I've noticed (unless the behavior is really over-the-top) is that long-time FReepers get timeouts instead of bannings. From his final postings, I'm not sure why Dane got the axe.
Things have tightened up since the early days. There is little mercy shown to FReepers with bad attitudes/behavior with less than 4 years of tenure.

I will be very disappointed if nobody ever tried to call the VK on me.... That's the kind of commie-liberal garbage I'd expect from a 12 year "Newby!" Get lost troll!
Feel better now?

I would never go to court as a defendant without a lawyer. But, $2000 is just silly. The criminal law business is in the toilet and he should be able to find someone competent to go with him for $500-1000 anywhere in the US. Tell him to go to court tomorrow and approach the public defender in the room where he is scheduled to appear and see if he takes paying clients. Those guys typically are working for $40-100 per hour and are allowed to have a private practice.

For the record, I was never a nOOb. That's the beauty of being from early Class of '98. We were
all nOObs. 'Cept for Jim, of course.
I have the scars to prove it...I was banned by Jim himself at least once, maybe more, before '98 was even over.

public defender is always free of charge, but if he makes more than $2000/mos, he could not get a public defender.
he makes $25k/yr.
so, he is not qualified for a public defender
