Original title: Obesity Rating for Every American Must Be Included in Stimulus-Mandated Electronic Health Records, Says HHS
----------------------
New federal regulations issued this week stipulate that the electronic health records--that all Americans are supposed to have by 2014 under the terms of the stimulus law that President Barack Obama signed last year--must record not only the traditional measures of height and weight, but also the Body Mass Index: a measure of obesity.

The obesity-rating regulation states that every American's electronic health record must: “Calculate body mass index. Automatically calculate and display body mass index (BMI) based on a patient’s height and weight.”

The law also requires that these electronic health records be available--with appropriate security measures--on a national exchange.

The new regulations are one of the first steps towards the government’s goal of universal adoption of electronic health records (EHRs) by 2014, as outlined in the 2009 economic stimulus law. Specifically, the regulations issued on Tuesday by Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius and Dr. David Blumenthal, the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology, define the "meaningful use" of electronic records. Under the stimulus law, health care providers--including doctors and hospitals--must establish "meaningful use" of EHRs by 2014 in order to qualify for federal subsidies. After that, they will be subjected to penalties in the form of diminished Medicare and Medicaid payments for not establishing "meaningful use" of EHRs.

I wonder when we will have to start sending the government our weekly menus of what we eat, along with our grocery shopping receipts.

This will just lead to gaming the system. Can you say ‘bribe’?

Besides, virtually ALL studies show that folks who are somewhat [but not morbidly] overweight have better longevity. Those rail thin vegan weenies drop dead of heart attacks, cholesterol, or for women osteo issues at a younger age.

If they choose to ‘deny’ treatment due to perceived BMI issues, they will be subjected to class action suits up the ass. Besides, they may find themselves with no cash as productive types turn to doing ‘favors’ for ‘friends’.

I have never understood the lefties who celebrated ‘getting rid of the middleman’ in private industry are in an all fire hurry to inject the governmental middleman [which is worse as they are REWARDED for spending every penny they receive] into almost every issue.

Frickin’ fascist/communist/Maoist ars*holes.

I’m sure Michele Obama will lead by example and be the first one tested.

crazy times, now we will have the fat police. Wonder what happens if you don’t fit into their guidelines —reduced level of health-care, extra tax? Where does it stop.

Couple the medical records, with all your financial transactions - monitored in the new financial reform bill -
--- the plan to collect all of this personal data must be about regulation and redistribution of both healthcare services and wealth.

Nothing good can come from this.

Have you looked into Vitamin D. Have a friend with the condition and he moved to Australia from the UK, just so he could get it naturally! Made a HUGE difference. He said that before, waking up was like he’d worked out all day in a gym and had the worst hangover, ever. After the Vitamin D absorption increased, it was much, much better.

Literally, he hardly slept before as waking up was so painful.

Hope things go well for you :-)

I can only think that more people will go with the ‘squirrel’ method. Having physical things which can be traded to avoid the ‘benevolent’ gaze of the Fed.

What about powerlifters and bodybuilders? Won’t they have above-average BMIs (lot of muscle, not fat)?

PING!

So, in other words, you get to weight 18 months for necessary procedures just like us fatties (I’m trying to lose weight). Life isn’t fair, and 0b0z0’s a frickin’ idiot.

It’s not about “health”. It’s about money.

You can take over my ping list and spread the message far and wide at least among conservative FReepers.

In a tough economy it’s a living for them. And a good one.

They won’t stop until either they call an NFL linebacker who is 6’3” 250 “fat” to his face and he knocks their teeth out...or until the voting citizens revolt...whichever comes first.
