Eagle helps wedding's best man

FORGET something borrowed and something blue, the latest accessory for the modern Gold Coast bride is a fearsome bird of prey.

A wedge-tailed eagle has been trained to swoop down the aisle over the heads of astonished guests to deliver the wedding rings to the best man or groom.

"Ten years after you've been to a wedding you won't remember the food that you ate, but you will remember if an eagle flew in," said Zanna Carey from Broadwings Events.

The eagle can perform its fly-in trick at weddings in churches, on beaches or in garden locations.

At the right moment during the ceremony, the best man or groom raises a gloved hand with a scrap of meat in it and the handler releases the bird.

The rings are clipped to leather straps tied to the bird's legs.

Soren the wedge-tailed eagle debuted at the wedding of world ironman champion Shannon Eckstein and Belinda Brown just over a week ago, where he posed for photos, but did not fly.

"They absolutely loved it," said Ms Carey. "Even the five-year-old flower girl was fearless."

Soren is preparing for his first fly-in appearances at two weddings this spring.

Is it like the Bud Light commercial where the trained falcon brings back beer some woman asks "Where does he get them?" Then they flash to the bird attacking a sidewalk cafe to grab the bottle.

Youtube Bud Light Falcon

Just hope the eagle doesn't bring in a ring with the finger still attached.

Actually, this is Australian, judging from the website. Which makes it no less cool! What a beautiful bird.

Ah, I think that's Australian, not American.

IMO, Aussies are Americans with a funny accent. They dumped Rudd, they like beer and BBQ and they don't like Obama. We're Brothers.

The *trained to fly down the aisle* part is amazing. That would be quite impressive to see.

Soren being used to help a paraglider regain her confidence after she’d been attacked by two wedge-tailed eagles and almost killed.
