Pretty rabbit. Sorry to hear that the bear got him. That’s tough to lose a pet like that.
I hope nobody tells jokes, or even SMILES when reading this story. It is a very serious and sad story. Especially for George.
I’ll bet my hind legs George still tastes like chicken.
I hope she had on something besides her stockings.
My greyhound killed my pet rabbitt.
I’m not joking, it really did happen.
Natural Selection at it’s finest
Serious question...does a rabbit “scream?”
yes...they do
Oh yes. Good enough for a horror movie.
It’s a horrible sound.
Serious answer: YES rabbits scream. Blood curdling scream.
Yeah, they do. I think the psyops guys in the US military use recordings of rabbit screams to keep hostiles awake and unnerved. I think they were used at Waco, too.
People have mistaken a rabbit screaming for a human child screaming for help. It isn’t a nice sound.
I have coyotes who live in the old growth behind the house in my backyard. We know they live there. We also know they have appetites, and that they aren’t vegetarian.
As such, all of our pets are indoor pets.
If you live in Alaska, anywhere, what’s the reasonableness of the expectation of being able to own a pet outdoors on the order of a bunny, kitty, or doggie, and not having it eaten by a predator?
I’m surprised that an eagle or hawk didn’t get it first. A penned rabbit in a front yard would look like a bakery sample plate to a donut addict.
The story says:
Although Nixon WAS NOT HURT in this situation, Police say they'd like to remind all Anchorage residents to keep a close eye on their pets while bears are active
Yes they do.
Many years ago while hunting I rounded my 410 shotgun on a cottontail and fired. The shot charge was a bit high and I took off its' ears and skull but did not kill it.
The screaming was pretty horrid as I went up to it and put it out of its' misery with a 22LR shot to the brain.
That bear must have been hungry because that rabbit has a lot of metal around it. The rig the rabbit was wearing could not have been that tasty.
