Mrs. & I had that same experience in some brew pub in the Monte Carlo our last trip there. SURLY freakin' waitstaff.
About all we found the Monte Carlo good for was for a place to sleep. No real big "draws" there.
SIDE NOTE: There was a power outage while we were at the MC (and IIRC I texted Las Vegas Dave, asking "WTF?"). I noticed that the very first things to power back up were the slot machines -- even before the ceiling lights came back on.
Sign at the Hoover Dam.
I'll bet there's a good story or two behind it.

I must tell you that one of the worst things that could happen is winning the first time you go to Vegas. I've seen it over and over and over. Especially for women. I'm glad you had a great time. But it was highly unusual that you and your wife won that kind of money.
I hope you understand what I'm trying to tell you.
When Mrs. LVD and I gamble, we do so for FUN only and not for the possibility of striking it rich!!
Still, the costs were very comparable to the trips we took Disneyland when the kids were younger we had a blast, so in my opinion, it was money well spent.
I really am glad you had a good time. We are driving right now to downtown Vegas. Posting from my iPhone!
I like some of the shows and you can eat for days at the various restaurants and buffets. Some of the shows are very entertaining. My impression is that it has become a real shopping mecca, with all the malls and casino shops. I can’t think of any place in the western US wher you can see so many shops except maybe LA of Frisco. If I want to gamble, I can go to Pechanga in 35 minutes.
PS my next couple of vacations will be in Arizona. My neighbors leave today to camp in the White Mountains. Supporting states which protect their citizens.
Didn’t MC have Burton the magician?
A city for good times....
Vegas is dead.....
Where is the pinball place?
You should have posted this over at the Travel Chanel under Who Gives A Damn.
Great story. Thanks for posting.
This is was the place I was talking about.
Turns out the MC shut it down last year.
A Mexican restaurant called "Diablo's" didn't get good reviews, either. Was that the one you ate at?
Last time we were there is was crowded. Not like the three small casinos you had to take the boat to get to. I guess I don’t like change. We loved Bullhead City. My husband always said it was named after our daughter. She still can’t live it down!!!!
Years ago my sister-in-law moved there because her husband was transfered to Vegas. He was not the sharpest stick in the bunch and had to drop a 20 in every slot he passed. If he won 5, he would rave about “how lucky I am!” I kid you not, he never comprehended that he was LOSING 15. It lasted 3 months before she packed the baby and went back home to mom. Gave the ultimatum, its either Vegas or me, and he quit his job and came home.
The new address is 1610 E. Tropicana, Las Vegas NV 89119 (right across the street from the Liberace Museum)
