Breastfeeding moms plan protest at park

Several moms are planning a protest at an Orange County park after they say a park employee tried to stop them from nursing their infants in public.

Two of the mothers say a lifeguard at Kelly Park at Rock Springs in Apopka blew a whistle and told them that they were exposing themselves and breaking the law as they nursed their infants last month.

Shawna Mitchell and Celena Chavez said a manager at the park did not know whether it was legal for the women to breastfeed publicly.

A mother can breastfeed her child anywhere the mother is authorized to be, according to Florida law.

Mitchell and Chavez told their story to other breastfeeding mothers in Central Florida both in person and via Facebook. Now dozens of women have committed to attending what the organizers are describing as a peaceful "nurse-in" protest on Saturday. The gathered women expect to nurse their babies in public at the park.

The event will begin Saturday at 9 a.m.

I found this line to be interesting. "Authorized", seriously. God authorized, not government.

They are not chewing, they are nursing.
It's a breast not a tit.

I remember years ago my wife and I were at a public auction in San Diego. About 20 minutes before the auction was to start a lady with a baby walked in, sat down in the middle of the rows of empty chairs, made herself ready and breastfed her baby. The room was predominately men, no one glared, no one made any comments, actually very little attention was paid to this lady. Finally about 3 minutes before the auction was to start the lady closed up shop and left. The adults in attendance treated this as if it was an everyday natural occurrence.

my local breaat feeding radical acquaintance “nursed” her boy past age 6... It was like watching kiddie porn to see them in public

This is what “unlimited freedom to engage publicly in a natural beautiful act” gets you

I’ve seen Koreans whizzing against the sidewalks in public- that too is a natural act, modesty is just a hang up

“People who find breast feeding “wrong, impolite, disgusting, whatever” have the problem”

.
Yes, a huge one!

Breast feeding is mandatory for infants up to the end of their first year. Its their only chance to have a healthy life.

I think your acquaintance was more into exposing herself than nourishing her child. Sounds like a nut. One year should be more than enough.

You may presume that. I have purpose-built nursing clothes, from Motherwear.com, as well as towels/blankets. A person would have to make a concerted effort to see anything but a baby in my arms.

“are these women pedophiles if some young child in the park inadvertently spies their exposed breasts?”

.
In an insane asylum perhaps...

I’m not talking about normal here. There is a whole underground out there that is very abnormal and is not something most would want to be nvolved with.

I think the statement means that if the location is somewhere the woman is not supposed to be, such as a private office, an off-limits construction site, etc., she can’t go there just because she’s going to nurse a baby.

Attention whores. Rather than take the word of a lifeguard at Kelly Park and go whining to the Orlando Sentinel, why not just go ask the supervisor to clarify state law to the lifeguard?

I’m trying to figure the odds of anyone’s hanging out ... what, in the trees 100 yards away? ... with a video camera, filming people at a public pool in the hope of catching a woman nursing a baby on film. Without anyone’s noticing and calling the sheriff. My calculator doesn’t have enough digits.

There are videos of nursing mothers available, and one could request the Motherwear catalog for free, too.
