Congress is considering legislation that would give government the power to mandate the features and design of every phone, computer, global positioning system (GPS), or any other device with a screen that connects to the Internet.
The bill is the 21st Century Communications and Video Accessibility Act of 2009, or H.R. 3101, and it is gaining votes in the U.S. House. The legislation will soon face a key vote at the Energy & Commerce Committee and then by the full House of Representatives before the end of July!
While the bills intentions are certainly noble, the technology industry has already made great strides in designing products and services to meet the needs of the disabled, and this continues to be an important area for innovation. But as currently written, H.R. 3101 would require manufacturers and Internet service providers to make all of their products and services accessible to individuals with every single type of disability.

“While the bills intentions are certainly noble...”
Oh yeah. If there’s one thing you can say about democrats, they’re NOBLE as hell. Apparently this author is a lib or a moron. Not that there’s necessarily a distinction.
Or locks on doors for business that are open 24/7.
Ain’t gonna happen. Even obambi has financial and political interests that will stop this. No worries, folks.
More control of your life with every day that goes by.
You are right BUT. I saw a car drive up to that ATM, past the keyboard and the rear window came down, an arm came out and felt for the keyboard.
A BLIND passenger, in the rear, was thus able to do her banking thing while seated IN the car on a drizzly day.
Useless to the sighted, but maybe a blessing for the blind lady.
I don’t give the government much credit, but every now and then, it may help someone. Also, what is the extra cost of molding BRAILLE into those push buttons?
why make a second set of keys when you can make one uniform keypad and have all inventory of parts be one uniform pad?
“While the bills intentions are certainly noble”
Total lie. There is nothing noble about trying to control what you could never create. These people are small people at war against their betters. Petty tyrants.
To hell with the disabled, they can fend for themselves!
I won’t lift one finger to help!
awsome image you have here -great post
in fact i’ve ordered an old desktop w/pushbuttons ‘cause portable phones don’t work when the ‘letricity is out

Try tracing THIS, feds!
negligent when the decision to mold it is made by the button manufacturer, or ATM designer, or bank involved.
infinite (ie: no bounds/what's next) when made by government.
double-infinite if made by congress, given the Article 1 Section 8 thing of the constitution.
I trust those cans were made without cadmium, and the solder on the edges do not contain lead, or the EPA will have to talk to you...;)
Not to mention bilingual warnings (with pictures) not to let your kids strangle themselves on the string or drown in the cans.
