I am looking for recommendations for a CCW pistol. I am working through the legalities of getting my permit, and am starting to shop for a weapon.
I already have a Ruger SR9, and am happy with it, but it is a bit bulky for CC. Want to stay with 9mm, or perhaps .380...leaning towards auto, but could be convinced to carry a wheel gun, also.
Your suggestions are always appreciated.
S&W 38 snub +P Airweight
For cold weather I’ve got an H&K USP Compact .40 with some mothballed hc magazines. It’s the best pistol I’ve ever owned or shot.
For warm weather I have a hammerless .38 S&W
I would recommend the Springfield Armory XD-40 with the 3.5 inch barrel. It holds 12 rounds in the extended magazine, which gives you the ability to put ordnance on target.
Yes it’s not a round I’d choose. Appealing little gun though. I’ll stick with a hammerless Smith 5 shot and I don’t even care if they’re +P. I doubt anyone will stick around after they’ve been hit a few times. I like the older steel frames. They’re nicer to shoot and I don’t mind a little extra weight.
Ouch!!
An they pack 357SIG now ?

I have not tried the Thunder but have owned several Bersa .380 pistols and they are fine guns. My first one was a strange one in which you pinched the front of the dust cover to take it down.
That little inexpensive Bersa may have been the most accurate pistol I have ever owned and that includes a bunch of High Standard, Ruger, Colt, and Browning target .22s. That Bersa would just keep putting them all in the same hole at 15 feet, if I was really careful.
I'm with yarddog on this one. The 380 Thunder is my wife's CCW. Accurate, reliable, inexpensive ... and a gun she is quite comfortable with.
This came out several years ago and as I recall they selected the 357 sig. It had a slightly lower performance in the gelatin tests compared to the .45 acp.
However the 357 sig had better penetration going thru glass, car doors and heavy clothes. I’m not able to find the published study again so I can’t link to it.
From what I’ve read most self defense situations don’t involve shooting thru car doors or car windows, so I’ll stick with the 45.
Very nice. Thanks a lot. My copy is Czech made one and I absolutely love that little gun.
I carry a G26. I own 20 handguns and the G26 is by far the best handgun I have ever owned.
Guilty as charged! Bitterly clinging to my guns and religion is how I roll...
Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!
As in this?
I have a 17 and 26 and shoot better at all distance with the 26. If I had to have one TSHTF handgun, this would be it.
It accepts the hi cap mags, is small, accurate and reliable.
Well, for vehicles, I also like the Judge. You can shoot the 45 Long Colt hollow points plus/or the 410 Winchester PDA Loads with 12 plated BB’s and 3 plated cylinder projectiles.
For light carry I use the Bond Ranger with the same loads. Don’t need anything else. Hit what you shoot at and walk away...
What did the NRA endorse BO now as well as Harry Reid?
