One month after the disappearance of 7-year-old Kyron Horman, police reportedly said a landscaper told them the Oregon boy's stepmother tried to hire him to kill her husband, Kaine Horman.

After a month with no trace of Kyron the family still hopes for his safe return. The allegation, first reported in The Oregonian but confirmed by ABC News affiliate KATU-TV in Portland through a source close to the investigation, thickens the cloud of suspicion surrounding Terri Horman, the last person to see Kyron before he went missing on June 4

The landscaper allegedly told police that Terri Horman approached him about killing her husband six or seven months before Kyron disappeared, the sources said.

No, sorry, that’s the problem with typing - no voice inflection and such. Didn’t mean anything toward you about it meaning nothing, just it meant nothing in the scheme of things.

I was thinking the cell phone pings was about the time that Kaine and Desiree started not believing Terri and they were telling reporters she wasn’t where she was supposed to be. Yes, the info came from Terri herself. The poly also came from her though it’s obvious when she got called back.

LOL, it’s also apparently the problem with this entire case, so much online chatter about NOTHING, for instance the reams of webpages about Kiera’s alleged earache, no new information whatsoever.

In a WS thread entitled, BACK TO THE BEGINNING, I was very surprised to learn that immediately after Kyron's disappearance that allegedly lots of students from Skyline Elementary School were VERY active on their Facebook accounts chattering about the "creepy man" who was at the Science Fair that morning.

Perhaps the early threads may contain information about the "creepy guy" at the Science Fair who was mentioned on Facebook by children who attend Skyline Elementary School.

I do recall mention of this male, but I don't know if he was ever identified and/or cleared.

I don’t have a FB so can’t even look around at pics much less try to find out about them talking about the “creepy guy.” Of course, good looking nice guys can also be pervs.

Ok, so Kaine said Terri was wearing her gym clothes when he got home. Does he know what she had on that morning? Surely, LE has gotten photos from other parents to see what she was wearing. Just wondering if LE has located those clothes and shoes. Easy enough to shower, don gym clothes, and dump the evidence clothes in the gym trash or a dumpster somewhere or Dede could bury them.

I just can’t wrap my mind around the Dede helped theory and her staying mum all this time. I can maybe see if they were lovers but even so, I wouldn’t do that for my spouse much less a friend. Sorry, FRiends, I’d rat y’all out in a minute and bring the rope!

Now “sources” (who? the neighbor’s cousin’s co-worker’s best friend’s brother in law’s dog walker?) are saying Dede gave her a new cell phone after LE confiscated hers and that’s why LE is going after Dede. Uh, I’d hope LE had more reason than that to haul her into the GJ and serve search warrants on her and her family.

"Still wonder why LE wouldn't comment on a reporter's question about whether or not there was a 'makeshift' home in the woods.

"Look at all the windows at the SW exit Kyron was seen at!

"Rumor: mentioned in one of the earliest threads that several students reported a strange, creepy man by the school. Could that have been the incident reported in police logs?"

You may not find this amusing, ((LOL)).... but I've even read in several different places that Terri planned this SO well, that she had duplicate sets of the SAME articles of clothing, so that she could dispose of her alleged "crime scene" wear, and look innocent, wearing the "exact same" clothing after she showered & cleaned up at the gym.

LOLOL

Agatha Christie devotees, no doubt!

I think, that in order to issue a search warrant that there must be "probable cause" --- not suspicions, but EVIDENCE of some type for why a search is deemed necessary and is requested.

However........ it is frighteningly scary how this investigation doesn't seem to be going ANYWHERE, and therefore perhaps anything is possible.

Well for the record I don't see Terri as fitting the mold of moms who kill their kids or stepkids. Most of them who have were really off the wall and killed them all in one fell swoop. I cannot find one, in fact, who left one alive and killed the other.

Then you have cases like that of Charles Ray Hatcher, who grabbed a small boy in broad daylight, molested, and killed him. The cops put the wrong man away for however many years. This is what I think will be the end result of Kyron's investigation if the truth ever comes out.

I am just playing statistics here. There is some loser out there who has all the history of a sociopath and progressed to child killing, and the LE are all wrapped up in outdated theory on this one.

Further Desiree is full of delusional hope and incredible pain when she states that Kyron has been stashed somewhere. The websleuth community has done a good job of putting this out to a nonsense idea.

Just look at every case of a mother killing her children and cases where a child has disappeared. The chances of Terri beating all those odds is incredibly slim.

Rather what is happening is that the pathologies and social group undesirables have overcome the bio parents under the stress of their child disappearing.

Mothers who kill

"When Jennifer Marie McKaveney's body was found by children in a Monroeville park, her throat slashed, police said they zeroed in on one suspect almost immediately: her mother.

Kimberly McKaveney, 40, appeared in court yesterday for her preliminary hearing and was held for trial on a single charge of criminal homicide for her daughter's death. Investigators have not identified a motive in the Sept. 16 killing.

Jennifer McKaveney, 20, may be the latest victim of maternal filicide -- when a mother kills her child. Pennsylvania has seen several harrowing versions of this most disturbing crime.

There's Michelle Sue Tharp, who sits on Pennsylvania's death row, convicted of intentionally starving her 7-year-old daughter. Tausha Lee Lanham weighed less than 12 pounds when her body was discovered dumped along a rural road in 1998. Tharp was convicted of first-degree murder in 2000.

And there's Janet Lynne Crawford, who admitted to starving her 4-year-old daughter, Kristen Tatar, to death. The child's emaciated body was found stuffed in a picnic cooler in 2003 in Parks Township, Armstrong County. Crawford was sentenced to life without parole in 2004. Tatar's father, James Tatar, was convicted of first-degree murder and also sentenced to life in prison.

Kimberly McKaveney maintains her innocence and told detectives that a man ran out of the woods and slashed her 20-year-old daughter as the two walked their dog. A witness testified she saw the mother in the park at the time of the murder, wearing a white T-shirt with "slash marks and blood on it," and police said they found bloodstains on the steering wheel and a seat belt in her car. McKaveney's formal arraignment is scheduled for Feb. 9.

Monroeville native Susan Hatters-Friedman co-authored a study on child murder by mothers that was published in September in the American Journal of Psychiatry.

"There are so many different reasons behind maternal filicides that it's hard to find predictors," said Hatters-Friedman, a psychiatry professor at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland.

More often, killer mommies victimize young children, Hatters-Friedman said, which makes the McKaveney case different than others that have made headlines.

Hatters-Friedman said there are many justifications mothers give for killing their kids. Some kill for altruistic reasons -- mom believes she is helping the child or ending the child's suffering. "In some cases, a child may be suffering from a fatal disease, and the parent wants to spare them that suffering," she said.

Andrea Yates, who believed she was saving her children from going to hell, fits into a second category of murdering moms: acute psychotics, Hatters-Friedman said.

The two infamous Pennsylvania cases fall under a third category: fatal maltreatment or abuse.

The fourth type of filicide involves women who had an unwanted children. Often, this occurs in a stressful, postpartum situation, where a woman may be alone, or isolated, Hatters-Friedman said.

The rarest reason parents kill their own children is spousal revenge and is more often committed by fathers, Hatters-Friedman said. And, she added, dads who kill their kids, especially when trying to get back at the mother, are more likely to commit suicide immediately afterward.

Often, there is little explanation for why a mother would kill her child, especially for the victim's family.

"The thing that's never been answered for me, is why?" said Rhonda Lanham, Tausha's aunt. "(Michelle Sue Tharp) was always mean to Tausha. You could tell she didn't love her as much as her other kids, but I couldn't tell you why."

Lanham clearly is still anguished over her niece's death. Her voice choked with emotion as she talked about her own children and her memories of little Tausha. "I carry her with me every day, and I have to live with this every day of my life," she said. "I think, if I would've done this or done that, she might still be alive."

Notorious cases

Darlie Routier, of Rowlett, Texas, was convicted in 1997 of stabbing to death her two sons, Devon, 6, and Damon, 5, in June 1996. She was sentenced to death and continues to maintain her innocence on death row. Her appeals for a new trial, based on what she argues is evidence that an intruder killed her children, have thus far been denied.

Susan Smith was convicted of drowning her two children, Michael, 3, and Alex, 1, in Union, S.C., in 1994. Smith initially told police she was carjacked but later confessed to rolling her car into a lake while her children slept in the back seat. She said she was depressed that her beau at the time did not want the responsibility of children. Smith was sentenced to 30 years in prison.

Andrea Yates was convicted of drowning her five children, Noah, John, Luke, Paul and Mary, in the bathtub of her Houston home June 20, 1994. The children ranged in age from six months to 7 years old. Yates' attorney argued that she suffered from postpartum psychosis. Yates was sentenced to life in a psychiatric prison. Diane Downs of Springfield, Oregon, was convicted in 1984 of shooting and killing her daughter, Cheryl Ann Downs, 7, in May 1983. She shot her two other children, Christie, 8, and Danny, 3, but both survived. Christie testified against Downs at her trial. Downs was sentenced to life in prison plus 50 years, and her case was the subject of the movie "Small Sacrifices."

Kyron Horman Update: One Tipster's Startling Suspicions, and Frustration | Willamette Week | Tuesday, August 3rd, 2010
http://blogs.wweek.com/news/2010/08/03/kyron-horman-update-one-tipsters-startling-suspicions-and-frustration/

".....DeWitt said a white pick-up truck driven by a female with brown or reddish hair came up fast behind him. He noticed in his rear view mirror that a boy with short dark hair and glasses kept popping his head up in the front seat, only to have the driver push his head down. The pick-up passed DeWitt and turned on a gravel road near an old mill site in or near the town of Monroe, Oregon. DeWitt said the pickup turned onto a side road where it stopped to meet a 'cranberry' color sedan from which a heavy set red head female and a male wearing a baseball cap emerged. DeWitt said the pickup driver got out and took the boy into a heavily wooded area where they were followed by the other twoâ€"with the male carrying a shovel he removed from the sedan trunk.

"DeWitt continued into town where he stopped at a gas station to ask for directions to his destination, which I think was a grain elevator for seed. While out of his vehicle, DeWitt said he heard what sounded like a single gun shot coming from the general vicinity of where he saw the three adults and boy. DeWitt then said....."

it is frighteningly scary how this investigation doesn't seem to be going ANYWHERE, and therefore perhaps anything is possible

I can't believe there not been ONE leak from LE. Just ONE. With supposedly all those officers from various departments (sure, FBI can be hush-hush) and organizations you would think someone would tell something. But, nooo. Either, as you say, anything is possible, or they don't have a thing and all this GJ stuff is just posturing and hoping they catch a break. She could very well be guilty as sin but the law says you can't make a profit off your crimes, so how will her high priced attorney get paid? It's not like she's even close to famous so a few naughty pictures before the trial won't add up to $350k. Either her parents just dumped their life savings or Houze thinks this case will get him face time but even OJ had to pay his legal team. He must think there won't be a conviction (innocent or lack of evidence) if he ever expects a check. That's where I'm hitting a brick wall - no hard and fast evidence and no attorney monies since supposedly nothing from the marriage is in her name. I haven't heard about the makeshift home in the woods. I also haven't heard any more about sighting Kyron with a homeless guy under the bridge. Oh my, lol. Changing at the gym is one thing but a double set of clothes?!? That's some looong time planning especially considering she'd also have to get her shoes broken in and scuffed. And make sure all the tags were properly disposed of and laundered few times to get the "new" out. Oh, and pay cash so it couldn't be traced through credit cards. They're also saying she had someone take her keys and sneak her mustang away from Kaine's work (for what purpose, I don't know). The writers for CSI should be taking notes.

Someone at SM found this posting from iVillage, it's really chilling. My first impression, when I initially heard about this case and learned that the stepmother was the focus of all the investigation, I immediately thought of the "n" word, the n-word, as in wondering if Terri considered herself to be the House "Nannie" .... (sort of) - lol.

And..... in the meantime, to learn that the birth parents and the new husband to the biomom all essentially DESPISE, LOATHE, & BELITTLE Terri Moulton, I'm thinking that perhaps my first impression, or first suspicion, or first interpretation of this case was correct.

I would NEVER in a million years air all the dirty laundry in my family, much less all the extended families, to the likes of Jane Valez Mitchell and Greta V. and Nancy Grace and Jean Cesares --- who the IS boards affectionately call, "Jinkosaurus" -- claiming that that's how Nancy Grace pronounces her name, LOL

Seriously, we've learned that this is one big Utterly Dysfunctional Extended Family filled with dishonest adults who never let the house "nannie" discover what they really thought of her.

Anyway, check out this SCARY post:

".....I hate my step kid too. Its not pleasant to think of your husband with another woman making babies, much less having to care for them yourself as a free babysitter, and all the bull that comes with it. Out in the wild, hippos, lions and various other mammals will kill these offspring. I can't stand my step kid, and he lives with us

Frown

"Anyways, if I didn't know him I'd say he's a very sweet kid, that has a speech disorder/learning disorder, and as long as I wouldn't have to be....."

Yates admitted at the time she knew she had done something very bad. It may be just me but she should still be behind bars instead of in a padded cell.

There was that woman in Dallas who was starving her three children that when they were rescued they were nothing but bones. Google “mother starving child” and there’s so many just in the last couple years. It’s not just mothers but fathers, too. A rash moment of anger causing the death of a child is unforgivable but starving a child over such a period of time is horrendous.

I call hogwash on anything McCain says and this is no exception. I’m going out on a limb and make comments as I read.

1) Riddle is 200+ miles from Portland so why the heck would this farmer call McCain? Seriously, call the Riddle LE if he couldn’t get through to MCSO. You can’t tell me that MCSO doesn’t have other non-emergency lines.

2) So, coinky dink, there’s a red haired woman in a white truck and a Kyron look-a-like she kept hiding. Oh, so Terri had Kyron 5 days later - in Kaine’s truck - a 100+ miles from home? I don’t think so.

3) The fast driving truck passed him, turned onto a gravel road, and then onto a side road to meet up with a cranberry sedan and several people, including another red headed woman, got out from the various vehicles, got a shovel from the trunk, grabbed the kid, and they all went off to the woods. Geez, he must have been driving so slow that snails were passing him to see all that play out.

4) Dewitt “continued into town” and stopped for gas at which time he hears a gun shot. Ok, so how far was town and the gas station from the woods?

5) Continuing on his merry way, the truck and car pass him again going so fast the car crashes into the back of the truck. Hmm, I don’t recall Kaine ever saying his truck was damaged so it couldn’t have been the Harmon’s truck.

6) He reports it to Eugene Co. LE but apparently doesn’t think anyone went out so he goes back himself. Ok, did he find anything like a newly dug grave?

7) Drum roll and a big ta da! The last sentence is, “I also told him that one reason why he might not have received a call back is that investigators knew where Terri and the pickup were around 12 noon on Wednesday, June 9.”

See, I knew it would turn out like this!
