Oh, BQ, I wish we lived closer, too! (I would have shared my cinnamon rolls with you guys, this morning!)
What is the difference between a 12 guage and a 20 guage? Which one should a Betty White type have? :-)
OK, I had to consult with my expert, he said the lower the gauge, the bigger the kick, the fatter the bullet/shell....
So 20 gauge would have less kick, smaller shells....
I haven’t fired a shotgun in about 20 years, used to qualify yearly. I don’t remember what I used then... *senile* :0)
You’re so cute and much younger than Betty White :0)
Oh, and hey, we’re only two hours south of you now, in Chandler... just last night and tonight. So now we can almost smell the cinnamon rolls, lol.
My guess is that Betty White would sweet talk a couple of big hulking guys with assault rifles into guarding her property. lol
Happy 4th of July, yorkie!
20 gauge is smaller, and doesn't quiet kick as much. Although some the effect of a smaller/lighter load is lost because the gun itself is also smaller and lighter.
Betty White would probably have the 12, but unless one has been shooting shotguns for a while, a 20 might be a better choice for a light statured person. I'm hardly that, sometimes I go by El Gato Gordo (The Fat Cat), yet I "made do" with a 20 gauge until I was in my 30s. Shot a lot more pheasants with it that I have my 12, and I'm 60 now.
Shotgun gauge is the number of solid lead balls that would just fit the barrel/bore that it would take to make a pound. Thus lower numbers mean bigger diameter barrels. That in turn means they throw more lead down range. There once were 2 and 4 gauge shotguns, but they were shot from mounts on boats, not from the shoulder.
Here's a video of one in action.
What a hoot!
