Must stay on the line until the ball is kicked. Usually they move a few yards just before and although illegal is overlooked unless it’s too much.

The goalie is not allowed to move until the ball is kicked.

Did you know that Shirley Temple was U.S. Ambassador to Ghana during the Reagan years?

Being pedantic here - they can move, just not forward.

Why doesn’t the goalie come way out of the crease and cut down the angle like they do in hockey?

Simple because soccer is not hockey ;-)
But to be serious this would make no sence because what would it help if you take one or maybe two steps out of the goal (because you would not have more time untill the ball hits the goal)

Excited that the US has evened the match, but god they need to get control of this giving up early goals thing. The teams are too good at this point to be giving away the advantage in the first 10 minutes of every match. UGH.

But I’ll add that the U.S. looks close to outstanding when they are aggressive and press the ball on offense. Unfortunately it has taken them being behind or in a pickle to light the fire in the 2nd halves of their matches.

It’s good to see the English fans in the crowd supporting the US.

THey always come out to play in the second half. Hoping for a sub for Altidore soon. He’s flat footed today.

Like the others have said, keeper can’t move till the ball is kicked.

To combat that I would set up just left of center because I dove better to my right. The opposing player would almost always kick to my right because he’d see all that open goal. Using that tactic I could stop most kicks that weren’t perfectly placed in the upper corner.

Two 15min halves of overtime (not sudden death) followed by penalty kicks.

My daughters karate sensei (Half Japanese, half American, married to a Brazilian) told all the student this morning to get up and cheer for “our cousins in England. We don’t want the Germans to win...”

No, there will be 90 minutes normal time. If a draw (get with the lingo haha) then it will be half an hour play (2 x 15 minutes), then if still a draw will be the most exciting and horrible thing in sport - penalty kicks!!!

The announcer said they would play an additional 20-minute period (IIRC). If still tied, they would go the shootout format.

No if there is no winner after 90 minutes then there is a max. 2* 15 minutes extra time.
If still no one wins.
There are penalty kicks untill someone wins
