Plan Z (when we finally reach that stage)...is to nuke the area. I read that’s a guaranteed fix but the environmentalists are firmly against it....and I think Obama doesn’t want the legacy as the second Democrat in the history of America to authorize use of nuclear weapons. If it’s still flowing in November....I’ll bet on this option being used.
So your idea is to create more cracks in the rock and give the oil more avenues to escape?
The Russians used this successfully to stop runaway wells. The idea is to fuse the rock over the well, thus capping it.
“The Russians used this successfully to stop runaway wells. The idea is to fuse the rock over the well, thus capping it.”
Not sure I’d use the Russians as an example for anything except how to kill or pollute.
Nuclear bombs don’t fuse, they blow up. It won’t melt the rock. It will make lots of little rocks.
Then melt them down into a solid mass.
You might not like to use them as an example, so what. That doesn’t mitigate the facts. They used this method and it worked for them.
Yeah...like around November 01st....:)
Unfortunately plugging the hole IS a monumental task.
This is Shell talking about a BP problem and you believe him?
It’s like a Pepsi exec talking about a Coke problem. Seriously.
I would say, we better get skimming. This is an opportunity waiting if the Unions would get out of the way. Put in an “executive order” that any oil recovered is the property of the skimmer and innovation takes over.
What do you mean by this?
I believe he is trying to appease the environmentalists and use this as a means to permanently stop drilling of oil and lead us further to being an impoverished third world country via energy and be dependent on our enemies.
Lemme take a wild guess. You live in either Wisconsin or Michigan.
The folks over at The Oil Drum, who are the closest to experts Ive seen on the internet, have said repeatedly in the comments that the geology isnt right. A nuclear bomb is used some distance away from the well to push the entire rock structure over, closing the well. From what theyve said, the rock structure around the Deepwater Horizon is of a type where the bomb would more likely make many fissures that would create new leaks.
So right now we have a cap with overflow relief valves with one pipe to capture a portion of the oil. Why not insert a new pipe inside the old one with a cap connected to multiple hoses to capture all of the oil flowing from this well head? Is that such an astoundingly complicated solution?? How many hoses would it take, two, three, four??
Some geologic expert interviewed in a magazine article last week said that there’s enough oil in this well for it to spew for 25 to 30 years. If so, God help us.
Shake a closed big bottle of Coke then when opening try to add a straw.
If it was easy it would have been done.
“You might not like to use them as an example”
For good reason.
“That doesnt mitigate the facts. They used this method and it worked for them.”
So they sealed a well that was 5000 feet under water and had between 7000 and 10000 PSI of pressure coming up. All in a currently unstable seafloor?
