A couple of years ago, one of you gave me the trick to both enlarge the text of FR posts and comments, and keep it within the borders of the iPhone screen for easy FReeping on the go.
I've just bought my new iPhone 4 and I don't remember how to set up this adjustment.
While I don’t know the trick you are looking for, I do have a great alternative solution.
Get Atomic Web browser from the App Store.
It has an enlarge font feature and you can choose to have it remember to enlarge the font for a site everytime it loads it.
Once you enlarge the font, double tap the articles column and the headlines fit the screen perfectly. When you click the headline, the next page’s post and all the replies also fit the screen.
It is a great Safari replacement, it has tabs and lots of other nice features.
There’s a free version but I liked it so much i bought the paid one.
Oh, one other thing — I first heard about this browser because Rush was talking about it and recommending it on his show!
Hope you like it as much as I do!
mark for later
I use the Opera Mini browser for Free Republic. It formats it to the size of the screen.
YESSSSSS! It works! OK, now I have the learning curve of a new browser, but I didn’t much like Safari anyway!
THANK YOU!
Anyone wishing to solve the article and comment-reading problems on their iPhone should download this browser. Wow, I can have the font exactly as I want each time I visit FR on my phone automatically (once you set it up as in Worrywart’s post - and the set up is not hard if I can do it). No scrolling from side to side at all. Comfort and ease for fast FReeping wherever I am!
This is better than the previous “trick” I was begging for last night, because that setup involved having to hit the special bookmark for each and every FR page you switch to, even if it’s just a new page of comments on the same thread, or just hitting “back.”
Thanks for also mentioning that Rush recommended it; he squeezes a lot of use out of his phone, so that’s a good rec right there.
Anyone having trouble doing it, just ask. It seems like a great browser, and I placed it in the position on my icons where Safari used to be, now.
Woo Hoo!!
Pinging you to posts 22 and 26! Happy iPhone FReeping!
And dang if the answer didn't come from him! Channeled through Worrywart!
Yes, I saw you were in line early too. Hated getting up at 4:00 am, but I was pretty elated at 8 am! Spent about 3 hours making my first iMovie (while at my child’s sport practice), then somehow while syncing at home, iMovie left my phone, so I synced it back and my first movie was GONE. :( But I remade it, with improvements, in 30 minutes... Ah, learning.
I love this thing. Reading is so clear with this amazing screen. The HD video is awesome. Learning new cool stuff every day.
I just switched to Atomic browser and that is solving it too.
Ii have 5 Macs, 2 iPods, an iPod Touch and and iPad which I also stood in line for ... but this is my first iPhone.
The retina display tipped me over and it is totally awesome! I am totally happy with it so far.
Thanks for that tip.
How about reception... are you having any problems with service??
I want one, but I have trouble even thinking about giving up Verizon. It’s starting to look like they are not going to change over, darn.
Reliable phone service is critical to me.
I already have an iMac and I love it.
I’m on my iMac right now, but I don’t have an iPad yet. Dreaming of one, though...
I was with Verizon for about 6 years. Service was so-so since I am in the hills so there were some dropped calls with Verizon.
I moved to AT&T to get the iPhone and the service and reception are fine. No dropped calls but I have barely had it 48 hours. Many of my neighbors have earlier iPhone and say they have some dropped calls as well. on AT&T but nothing serious. In a few weeks, I’ll know for sure.
AT&T does my regular internet service well, and my iPad just fine. I just wish they would allow me to bundle ... maybe later.
I really like the iPhone’s touch keypad.
(ducking)
Haven’t had any reception problems on my iphone 4. Not even at work where there is tons of electrical noise and lots of metal, machines, and automation.
I do have a bumper tho
Thanks for your input. I want one, but I might have to wait a bit more just to be sure.....
Check this out. It’s the screen that sold me on buying it
