Do Porn Sites Need .XXX Web Domain?
abcnews. ^ | June 25, 2010 | KI MAE HEUSSNER

Internet porn sites may soon have the option to move off the ".com" main street of the Web to their very own adult-only domain: ".xxx."

But industry experts say the adult world is divided over whether or not there is actually a need for a dedicated virtual red-light district. Internet domain names are expanding exponentially.

The Internet Corp. for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), an international Internet oversight group, announced Friday that it would proceed with a proposal to register ".xxx," after rejecting the same application three years ago.

Peter Dengate Thrush, chairman of ICANN's board of directors, told ABCNews.com that the board had previously rejected the .xxx proposal by ICM Registry, LLC because of disagreement over whether or not a community of adult content providers backed the proposal.

A number of years ago I saw an interview with one of the leading internet porn purveyors and he said if you want to block porn the easiest way is to provide an address, such as .xxx that can then easily be blocked. As I understand it, the left has actually blocked the creation of such a designation, apparently in order to keep porn in the faces of families that would otherwise attempt to block it.

Yes, stop calling raping kids on camera “art”. Perverts advertising smut to kids is “free market”. whatever.

I hope they all get AIDS and die, that would make me happy.

Is there a free market for murder too?

The porn industry wants to attract the eyes of children.

Why do you think so many of their sites use words like “teen” in the title?

It’s a good idea. Makes it easier for those who wish to avoid it to do so.

The biggest problem would be how to treat sites where the content is uploaded by the users.

Some of these have gotten a little raunchy, particularly when the Admin Moderator is asleep.

I know I stumbled across a whole series of porn sites while sitting with my then about 8 yr old daughter when she wanted to look at additional sets of clothes for her "American Girl" doll. Try typing American Girl and you get all sorts of porn sites. Fortunately I didn't have a browser that gave image previews so I realized immediately I had to revise the search parameters and because she was so young she wasn't able to read the options that popped up.

But as I indicated, the porn guy said if you want to make it easy for programs to block sites move all of the porn sites to a .xxx so you can just block all such sites simply via software.

I was surprised to see the porn guy recommend an honest and functional solution...but I've seen "progressives" block that solution at every turn.

Yes, stop calling raping kids on camera “art”.

That's already illegal to do.

Perverts advertising smut to kids is “free market”. whatever.

There are measures one can take to prevent this from happening. Parental controls, monitoring your children's internet usage, for example.

I hope they all get AIDS and die, that would make me happy.

Uh OK, but you're still missing the point. Porn is big business and there is a market. Trying to regulate it more than it already is, or going further and banning it, won't stop it.

I am SHOOCKED that Hollywood pervs would want their $20,000 productions that earn millions to be blocked...SHOCKED I tell you.

Yeah, we made the “american girl” mistake too.

Nice of those sickos to display that to my little girls.

The LORD will judge.

Sounds good to me. Get all the porn sites out of the .com and .net zones, and DNS lookups or zone transfers on what’s left should work better.

The porn industry wants to attract the eyes of children.

The industry is heavily regulated. Parents can buy filters to prevent their children from watching it.

Why do you think so many of their sites use words like “teen” in the title?

Probably because 18 and 19 year olds have the word "teen" in their titles?

I know, big business just can’t be stopped.

We make millions on abortion. Try to stop it, it just won’t work.

Couldn’t stop those lampshade factories in Germany, either.

There is so much money made in child prostitution. Why bother trying to end it? Just don’t use it if you aren’t comfortable.

As for the caste system and the slavery there, you know, it is ingrained. Might as well give it up. That is the way it goes.

Slavery in America was pervasive as the sun. How could we have possibly stopped that? Well, obviously we couldn’t. I don’t know what those Union soldiers thought they were doing. Do you know that people are still enslaved?

Child abuse. There has been child abuse since the beginning of time. What are we going to do, put cameras in all the houses of America? It is just beyond ridiculous. You can’t stop it anyway.

Etc.
