VICTORVILLE, Calif. (CBS) ― Click to enlarge1 of 1 Several mothers got into a verbal confrontation during a kindergarten graduation ceremony at Puesta Del Sol Elementary School.
Joyful graduation ceremonies are being held across Southern California, but one -- for kindergartners -- turned into a vicious brawl between parents.
Several mothers got into a verbal confrontation Wednesday during a kindergarten promotion ceremony at Puesta Del Sol Elementary School in Victorville.
The altercation, which took place in a field near the ceremony, turned physical, according to San Bernardino County sheriff's spokeswoman Karen Hunt.
Several men then jumped into the fray and the incident turned into a brawl. Hunt says arriving deputies didn't see any physical contact.
There were no arrests and no injuries reported.
"I saw a big group of grown-ups fighting," said Taylor Raymond, a sixth grade student at the school.
The school was placed on lockdown and students were ushered to separate classrooms as police tried to find the parents involved in the fight.
As a result of the brawl, the school's ceremony for sixth graders has been canceled.
"She worked hard this year, you know? And it's her day. And for them to take that away from her is hurtful," Raymond's mother said.
Fearful of more problems, the school's principal, Christa Erolin, sent a letter to parents that said "no parents will be allowed on campus for end of the year activities."

The words that started the brawl were: “Don’t push my little Jose, b!tch!”
Another update: the women who were fighting over a man are black. Reported by someone who attended the event.
Well, they had to have a kindergarten graduation ceremony because it’s the last formal education that most of these kids are ever going to bother with.
I posting something to that effect on the San Francisco paper’s website, and amazingly they left it up. Thing is, every day the media does something to illustrate how incredibly stupid they think we are. And every day we notice. Read about how USA Today is getting ready for another round of lay-offs and smile. :)
No, no, don’t introduce facts! All social disruption is caused by illegal immigrants! Citizens of the US never fight over boyfriends! Didn’t you get the memo?
Save it for the afterparty at Chuck E. Cheese
Pssst! It's an ethnic issue. The wrong ethnic misbehaved. Not to be discussed.
Dueling babymamas?

What a surprise. Is there any situation that the "educators" won't mommy-punish the entire group for the specific misbehaviors of a few? This relentless collectivist enforcement is insulting to children - to apply it to adults is reprehensible. The non-fighting parents ought to tell this principle to get a real fast clue about the limitations of her power to punish an adult for someone elses violations - not to mention the principle's own clear failure to maintain order.
Public schools are run by monsters.
“That comment was about a sixth-grade graduation ceremony, which will not be held because of the uproar at the kindergarten graduation.”

Thank you, Tax-chick, I stand corrected. I should have read more carefully.
Something like that. ;)
Filler; slow news day.
“....the women who were fighting over a man are black. Reported by someone who attended the event.”
Two women who probably gave birth to their kindergartner when they reached the advanced age of about 13 or 14.
I think they do all these graduations, one for each year, because the studen turnover rate is so high that kids only get to do one or two years at any one school; then it’s off to another school, jail or the morgue. If it’s the latter, then it gives the Mom and the baby daddy (if she knows who he is) a nice picture to remember the kid by; something for her to look at while sitting on the couch during commercial breaks in the Jerry Springer show and something for him to look at while walking the rec yard in prison. And of course, if the kid winds up going to jail/prison after 5th grade graduation, the certificate helps to show prison officials so they’ll know which GED class to place the kid in.
So......all in all, it serves some pretty good purposes I suppose.
"Its been a long time since I (or even my kids) attended kindergarten, but I dont remember it as being all that hard."
The quote is from the mother of a sixth grader whose end of the year ceremony was to follow the kindergarten graduation. As a result of the brawl, that ceremony was cancelled.
Personally, I agree. Kindergarten graduation? Nuts. But I do like Dairy Queen. :)
