I found a disc I thought I'd lost when I moved. These shots are from October of 2004, grandson Gerry built a trebuchet for the school science fair.
The project was approved in advance but when Gerry started setting up, and they realized what a trebuchet is, they confiscated his tennis balls, LOL
In the last shot you can see a ball headed downrange, up in the top right corner.
Glad to see you are having a positive influence on your grandson. Little boys need someone to teach them to be men; not the wimpy, pantywaist metro-sexuals we see today.
The comments bring back lots of good memories. How did we survive childhood? We had M-80s, rockets, guns, bows & arrows, we camped, fished, biked and played unsupervised.
Those are some great pictures. I love the concentration on his face in the first picture, he is such a handsome boy !!!!
I love the project, very cool.....looks like something one of my boys would have made.....he must have had so much fun......
Have you ever seen the Nova presentation on building 2 full scale 12th century trebuchets? Imagine one that will throw a 300 pound solid stone ball over 200 yards. Do a search on Youtube for “war wolf” and “nova”. Our ancestors weren’t stupid by any means, they built some amazing stuff.
Just did the search you suggested. Awesome. My Norske ancestors tended to trash less well-defended villages. :-)
What is wrong with tennis balls? Should he have been using rocks?
“kinda like this?

I was thinking something a BIT more powerful, but this will do until something better comes along!
