I'm an ugly American. I don't get soccer but I'll watch every four years and pull for the US team. I love football (the American kind) and love to see someone get flattened on a good hit over the middle.
Crap - offside position...!?!
Soccer and football are for wimps. Rugby is a real man’s game. All the violence for football with out the pads and the continual play of soccer. But the real action is in the stands where there more injuries than on the fields.
At least the US has not given up an early goal. (I hope I did not jinx them, hee hee)

No player on the attacking team can be closer to the goal line than the last defender (excluding the keeper) before the ball is played forward.
offside rule (simple because there are some expetions)
A player is in an offside position if, when the ball is played by a team-mate, they are nearer to the opposition’s goal line than both the ball and the second last opponent.
btw. This was not an offside as the slow motion showed.

but anyway the US has REALLY bad luck with the referees.
I don´t remember any tournament in the last years where the referees sucked this bad like in this WC.
