What is going on with FR?
Posted on 06/22/2010 5:26:33 AM PDT by Vision
A server crashed, ok. But why have I not been able to get on FR at home since Saturday night, but FR is accessible at work?

I’ve had that same problem. Super-fast here at home, with two live-in computer tekkies, but I couldn’t get FR most of the weekend. I did get on yesterday at work on an old beater of a computer system. If I remember, tho, things were topsy-turvy and old stuff was coming up.

How would you clear the problem on an iPad and/or iPhone? I had trouble loading FR on my iPad the last few days.

Looks like a phone shut-off-and-turn-on is the way to do this.

I have a PC. Since the server went down, the only problem for me has been incredibly slow page loading/reloading. I did the recommended DNS flush. No effect.
I put poobear’s http://209.157.64.200/ in the address bar. No effect
I then went to my Mac laptop. Exactly the same incredibly slow page loading/reloading for FR.
This is driving me crazy.

Strange. The
http://209.157.64.200/ works great for me. I'm on a PC with Firefox. Firefox hates everything. Maybe clean up your cookies and temp files. Other than that, I'm no computer geek. Lots of them here on FR. Try and find a “Tech Ping” thread and ask an expert. Good luck.

Udate:
I restarted my PC a second time (first time this morning after updating iTunes). Voila. Things are much better.

I had the exact same problem...couldn’t get in FR at home, but work was fine! :-)

I had not been able to get of FR since yesterday at 5:00 PM at work until about 45 minutes ago, but my Blackberry could access it just fine.
I have been monitoring and very few others were complaining on channels I had access to (Facebook and Yahoo groups). I would see a posting "Slow in SC" or something like that, but I had no access whatsoever.
I can't figure out why some areas could get it and not others. I am closer to the servers than most who had access.

The government is running tests to see exactly how they can shut down sites in sections of the country.
Bet on it.

My PC was recently tuned up. All sites working perfectly except FR, which has been spotty or running painfully slow since the weekend.
Update 5:45 ET - FR seems slightly better now....

Here’s what I did to fix the slow as molasses on my mac:
1. Went into the configuration on my Linksys WAP/Router and put in some static DNS servers - using Google’s Free DNS... and 3rd entry my ISP’s DNS.
2. Flushed the DNS cache on my MacBook Pro: http://www.mactricksandtips.com/2009/01/clearing-your-dns-cache.html
Working like a charm now.
