We have a dog that loves to eat paper. One day my husband found a half eaten $20 bill on the floor! This owner was lucky the dog apparently swallowed it whole.
BTW, we took the bill to the bank, told them what happened and they replaced it.
Your anecdote gives more credibility to the old “the dog ate my homework” story.
