You advocate still what I used to advocate myself: to vote out of fear and surrender, to vote against your better judment for a candidate who will bring about all the things you don't want and which you know are BAD for freedom and America: bigger more intrusive government. But you will vote for that person, and you will urge me to vote for that person, because you "reason" that at least that candidate who is not as scary as the Democrat who stands for bigger more intrusive government.
So then if your guy wins, and when the bigger more intrusive government comes, it comes under the Republican banner -- and guys like you can't understand why voters are so cynical about the Republican party and say "There's not a dime's bit of difference between the two parties!" Guys like you can ONLY shiver and cower in fear and whimper, "But [insert the name of the Democrat opponent here] would be worse!" And you vote for someone you don't believe in because you live in fear, and you vote in fear.
I used to do the same thing. I FINALLY learned with Arnold Schwarzenegger. If I had it to do over again, I'd have voted such that Bustamonte won because at least there would have been a chance for the Republican party to become stronger and better. Schwarzenegger won and because he is virtually as liberal, anti-gun, pro-environmental socialist, big-government as any Democrat, he is squelching the future hope of the Republican party as a viable, decent alternative for people who are sick of those things. Big government liberal Republicans are the greater evil than big government liberal Democrats for the future of this nation because they sabotage the future of conservatism finding an identity in the Republican party.
As long as big governmnent liberal Republicans win, the Republican party will be dominated by big government liberal Republicans. The only way to shift the direction of the Republican party toward limited government conservatism is to vote such that liberal Republicans lose. It takes guts, guts I didn't have when I voted against my better judgment for Schwarzenegger, but I learned: No guts, no glory.
But I can guess what you're going to say. You're going to say what I used to say: "But the Democrat will be so much worse!" It is short-term thinking and it is what has led us to this point. STOP ENGAGING IN EINSTEIN'S DEFINITION OF INSANITY. Stop voting from a place of fear and start voting from a place of courage.
There are many trolls that come on this site and Preach this dogma. Many conservatives thought they would teach the Republicans a lesson in 2006 and the result was that Democrats took control of both the house and the senate and crippled any further Bush initiatives and blocked all appointments to judgeships or commissions such as the NLRB.
Again in 2008 the trolls and the crackpots urged us to teach the Republicans another lesson in conservatism. The result was Obama, the most corrupt administration this side of Hugo Chavez. Now we also have a Supreme Court being populated with out and out socialists who will be with us for decades. The country is being destroyed right before our eyes. We are headed to third world status.
So if you think you are exercising you guts, I suggest that you try to use a little common sense. Or maybe go back to the Democratic Underground.
