Pac-10 extends invite to Utah

Utah is poised to become the 12th member of the Pac-10 as the conference quickly pivoted Wednesday to invite the Utes after being turned down by Texas and four other members of the Big 12 two days ago.

Utah officials did not immediately say whether the invitation would be accepted, but it would be shocking if the Utes didn't leave the Mountain West Conference for the Pac-10.

It would be hilarious if the Ute’s turned them down... BYU should be invited to the Big 12 (now 10)

Sort of funny in Texas, the politicians are so keen on forcing a package deal with conference realignment but I guess even the BYU politicians do not have the balls to deny Utah a Pac-10 membership because the Pac-10 will not take BYU along.

Texas doesn’t want a championship game...and Texas gets what it wants in that conference now.

The PAC 10 went from a mega conference with Texas and OU, to a adding Colorado and Utah.

Talk about a pin prick in your balloon.

How can they generate all of this money from television deals they are predicting if they don’t have a conference championship game. We’ve been told for years now that is where all the money is.

The theory is some of the networks came in with a big TV deal in principle to keep the PAC TEN from going 16.....and then it is divided 10 ways (but not evenly) instead of 12. There really isn’t a team to add that increases TV money unless they could somehow steal an Arizona team..which is unlikely.

Whether this money actually materializes will be interesting, nothing is actually signed yet AFAIK

Sporting News pre-season (national) picks indicate the PAC 10 title's up for grabs:

#15 - Oregon State
#16 - USC
#22 - Utah ("Quarterback Jordan Wynn, and four returning offensive linemen, will need to carry the Utes as their defense retools.")
#25 - Washington
